“Noisy and a bit shabby”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 December 2011

Yes it's a bargain to stay here but impossible to get a decent night's sleep.
The noise from the street outside is deafening, even when we managed to get a couple of hours kip early morning the hawkers setting up their stalls at 4.00 am woke us up again.
Staff are very young, and service is O.K in terms of asking if you wanted to eat whilst we were using the wi-fi in the restaurant, however whenever we walked past reception we were badgered with whether we wanted any of their tours yet - this is obviously the main way they make their money.
Room was ok, not a very comfy bed, and the bathroom was quite dirty, with hardly any water pressure at all in the shower.
If you must stay at the Venus just bring very good earplugs with you..

“Great place and great price!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 March 2011

I went to the Venus hotel looking for a bargain and got way more than expected! Yes its an old hotel but its really clean and I got a room with a shower and bathtub, ye! The breakfast was included and the management helped us organize a ride to an oasis. A lady called Paola works there and she is super kind, friendly and knowlegable about Egyptology, her being an archeologist helps. The price is more than decent for what you get and the entire staff is friendly (not overbaring) and honest. The location makes its so that you are close to everything; market place, pharmacy, food... Did I mention there is a rooftop terrace and a restaurant(good food AND price) on the second floor?
It was simply a really positive experience that I fully recommend.

“Decent hotel, very noisy!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2011

We stayed here in January 2011, and it was 40 egyptian pounds per person per night. Decent rooms with average beds, clean sheets and uncomfortable pillows. To get hot water we had to ask reception and they turned on the pump for us. There was wifi but it only worked on the ground floor and the second floor. Breakfast was included (bread, cheese, jam, yoghurt and coffee).

Unfortunately it was extremely noisy until at least 2am, but earplugs worked wonders!

The staff were very nice and very helpful, and could organise tours (although we visited sights independently). There was no hassle, the price was constant for the rooms and we found no touts there. There was also a nice rooftop area where we took our food and beers and had a nice evening.

“Venus Hotel is no Godess”

Spent four nights at Venus in November and was dissapointed to say the least.
I know the Venus for a long time and have visited many times and know some of the staff many years however this time i was left with a sour taste in my mouth and will not stay there again. I was over charged for a start and made that quite clear but to no avail.
Room was ok but bed not very comfartable.
The tiny bathroom was filty and had what looked like an open sewer in it.
What disgusted me most of all was when I checked out I left a bag with presents of the Egyptian calenders in. I remembered late taht day and returned and asked if they had been found .The receptionest did hand me the bag containing the calendres. It was my own fault for not checking inside the bag because at the airport later in the day I had a look inside to find that some were missing.

“Amazing Service!!!!!!!!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 October 2010

After our boat docked in Luxor, we wandered around the city checking hotel for prices. There were 3 in our group, and we chose the Venus because the price was right, great location, awesome terrace, and wifi service was free in the lobby and restaurant. It was only 90 Egyptian pounds for all 3 of us for the night!! The beds were a bit stiff, and the general condition was low budget, but we certainly got more than we paid for.
After we checked in in the afternoon, we went out with our guide for a bit. On our way back, I began to not feel well at all. I went back to the Venus ahead of my friends and layed on the couch in the lobby since I did not have the room key. Walid(sp?) was the front deck agent, he recognized that I did not looks so good, so he had Mohammed from the restaurant get me a coke, free of charge. As my condition deteriorated over the next hour, they became very concerned.
My friends wanted to go out that night, and I said I would be ok at the hotel alone, and I was under the watchfull eye of Mohammed. By the time they returned at 9pm, I was horribly ill. When I say horribly ill, I mean HORRIBLY ILL!!!!! Mohammed had come and checked on me a few times while my friends were out, and was so concerned with my condition, rightfully so, he had already contacted a doctor to put him on call and to get some advise. By 11pm I was suffering from such severe intestinal pain I was wailing, and was severly dehydrated. Another in my group of 3 was also beginning to show signs of travel sickness. When Mohammed came to check on us at that point, he and the 3rd member of my party decided it was time for the doctor to come and treat me.
I needed IV fluids and LOTS of medication to get me thru the night, as did the other sick travel partner, not as much as me though, thank goodness!! The doctore\s were at the hotel treating my until 2am! Walid allowed them to stay at the hotel, in the next room over, free of charge so thay could monitor me!! I needed additional fluids and antibiotics the next morning as well.
I cannot explain the level of gratitude that I have for Walid and especially my little Mohammed!! They truely saved my life that night!
The Venus may not be a 5 star hotel, but their service was above and beyond!!!!! I highly reccommend that ANYONE stay at this lovely little establishment in the heart of Luxor.
I would have had to cancel the remainder of my trip had it not been for them!
THANK YOU!!!!
