“Perfect hideout from a thousand fairy tales...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

We stayed in Al Moudira for a full week to relax, enjoy the sun and visit a couple of historic sites in Luxor.
It is unbelievable what Zeina realized in the dry desert on Luxor's westbank! This perfect boutique retreat is really a "hide-out from a thousand fairy tales". Every detail in the architecture offers something special, Arabic antiques, specific corners, colors, a special fountain etcetera. The whole territory is spacious and green, outside the hotel is only desert. The rooms are spacious, the bathrooms even more. The only thing you hear in the morning are birds! Breakfast is nice and healthy, like all the other meals. The cook uses a lot of vegetables from their own garden. There is a cosy bar where you can have your drinks before dinner and lunch can be taken near the swimmingpool. Reception is willing to arrange whatever you want and all personnel is more than friendly (what we upfront, to be honest, did not expect in Egypt).

According to other reviews...
- yes the bathroom gets wet when you take a shower... but they check your room twice a day... to dry the bathroom and replace your towels if you want to..
- yes it is relatively far from Luxor. You can get a taxi voor 140 Egyptian pounds (go and return) to any place you want, which is at this specific moment only Euro 16.

Why not 5 stars:
- Food is ok but could have more taste (spices), occasionally there where very nice courses in the daily changing menu
- There is something 'wrong' with the white wine... too old, not stored well, too oaky, I do not know, but we think that they should serve a nice sauvignon in this warm climate. Luckily the red wines are fine.

Last recommendation: bring your own hairdryer if you 'hate' those hotel dryers as much as I do...;-)

To finalize: please go to Egypt/Luxor, it is perfectly safe at this very moment and the people need the tourist. They realize that and are less "pushy" then they ever were. Big advantage at the moment... it's cheap and quiet!

“Very different and very cool”

This place is unlike any other hotel in which we've ever stayed. Words can't properly explain -- check out the pics. Service was good, laundry was very inexpensive and the restaurant was good. We particularly enjoyed having breakfast in the sun in the outdoor area. The rooms are absolutely enormous and have very high ceilings. There is free wifi in the lobby area.

The hotel is on the west bank near Luxor so it's away from the city and most other hotels which are on the east bank. This is really the only downside, although for about $25US, the hotel can arrange for a taxi to take you to the east bank for a half day (staying with you/waiting for you wherever you go).

Highly enjoyable and highly recommended.

“Slightly dissappointed”

We stayed at this hotel in November 2012 on a friends recommendation. Maybe our expectations were too high but we were a little dissappointed with this hotel. The concept was lovely and the decor reminiscent of earlier times but somehow it felt a bit tatty. The gardens needed weeding, the fountains weren't working and some of the furniture was in need of repair. Some of the staff were not exactly friendly, welcoming or attentive. Unfortunately, because of the recent political upheaval in Egypt, the hotel was almost empty of guests and this probably contributed to its air of neglect and the lassitude of the staff. I would recommend it to a group but not necessarily to couples.

“Enchanting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 December 2011

From the moment we walked up the path into the lobby, everything was magical. Absolutely every focal point is a work of art, showing the remarkable eye for detail of the owner. We couldn't stop taking pictures whereever we looked : the patios, the pool, the poolhouse, the vegetation, the lobby, the courtyard, the lounge, the restaurant, it is all so tasteful, really like being in a private home right out of Archtecture Digest, but with a relaxed local colour too. We stayed three nights, and could have stayed at least two more! Al Moudira is located on the West Bank, so an easy drive to the Kings Valley, and really not far from Louxor either. But fortunately, far from the noise and harassment of downtown Louxor. We were more than happy to dine at Al Moudira every night, two nights in the romantic courtyard by the fountain, and one night in the restaurant. The cuisine is absolutely delicious, with new home made dishes on selection every night. The staff is helpful and friendly, yet discreet

“TOTALLY DIFFERENT”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 December 2011

This is one of my favorite hotels in Luxor and it's in my opinion one of the best design hotels in all Egypt. It is located on the West Bank, close to the Valley of the Kings.

It is highly recommended for:
- Honeymooners.
- Travellers who would like to enjoy a memorable stay away from the crowd of Luxor.
- Travellers who enjoy staying at authentic boutique hotels, rather than big standard chain hotels.

Each room or suite is designed differently with real (or half real) antique furniture. Walls are hand-painted with oriental motives and patterns. The swimming pool area is quiet and relaxing. One of the best moments is having breakfast while listening to the birds singing. Very romantic!

It’s a unique charming hotel full of oriental details.
