“Nice hotel- the location was quiet good.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

We stayed in this hotel for 4 nights in march 2010. It was a nice experience , though it may not have stunning views and all.But considering the traffic in the city of cairo, we found this hotel very helpful. As it was really easier to reach many places from here. And the service was not so great, we ordered for hot water and had to wait for hours. Then we bought a new kettle for making our own hotwater , tea and coffee.
And not to forget the souvenir shop...just opposite to the hotel.Actually we had purchased many things from the Khalili bazar...then later after purchasing in this shop we found that we had really paid double the price in the market.

“Old and Rundown”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 December 2011

Built in the 1940s it sure could do with an overhaul(someone has sure photo shopped the pictures), tiles missing off the roofs, pideons everywhere so poop also everywhere. Nice views on the balcony but the pool waterfalls are so noisy you cant leave the windows open even. The lift had to be the worlds smallest and sounded as if it was about to fail each time it moved. The wireless internet at US$6 per 30 minutes was the slowest I've used, even dial up is way faster. The selection of food at breakfast was large, shame all the cooked food was cold every morning. We stayed twice and both times the third bed was not in the room, so had to be asked for both times. The TV needed 3 different remotes to find one that worked half decent. The aircon did not work in the second room. The shower rose in the same room leaked and sprayed the whole bathroom with water. The beds were rock hard. The only thing that worked well was the ATM. Staff were acceptable with Dina on the desk being excellant. Location for us was great being between two roads with plenty of shops to check out, we felt quite safe even at night.
Egyptian 5 star is definatly not rest of the world 5 star, maybe 2 at a push

“Cape to Cairo”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 November 2011

It once was grand but the Internet pictures do not tell the run down truth. Close to Giza and reasonably priced. Restuarant is awful.

“Difficult to find”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 November 2011

This rather sad place needs maintenance and a facelift. It appeared to have once been rather grand and characterful but is now just ticking over. If you want to be in the heart of the city and able to walk in the streets and explore, then it's fine, but if you need visual space then it's not for you. It's difficult to find if you are self-driving and have been given the wrong GPS co-ordinate as we were! The hotel taxi service is a useful "fix it" agency but dont be shy about bargaining and check prices beforehand if you can. Located in a side street off the main drag.

“Average Hotel - Internet a RIP OFF”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 October 2011

We stayed at the Amarante, which is close but not close enough to the Pyramids once you encounter Cairo traffic, about 4km away! It's is average - rooms are nice, but restaurant has limited menu and not that good. Staff friendly. The one thing that really annoyed me was internet which is US$30 per 24 hours - with a usual Egyptian smile! It is very hard to find, stuck down a side street. There is a sign on the main road but it is hidden by a tree!

Room Tip: Not the pool level unless you want to be on display
