“Four nights, solid hotel but dated.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

The hotel is typical of older Hilton hotels. Security was very good as this was a concern being in the hot spot of the protests. We could not go out on the streets after nightfall but then we were too tired to do that anyway. The room was nice and had a balcony which over looked the busy streets, not a place to sit. One night the protestors marched enforce down the street by the hotel. My room had a broken mini-fridge and one day they used some chemical to clean the room that smelled terrible. The bed was very comfortable, bath was adequate. The biggest issue was that out of the 10 restaurants in the hotel only three were open. The hotel manager told me the hotel is being renovated and will be modernized 'next time we visit'. Overall, there are newer hotels but this one was okay.

“Great location but in need for renovation”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

Visited Hilton Ramses in July 2011 for a business trip. It is a nice hotel with a grand lounge but the rooms are old and in need of renovation. The view of the Nile was wonderful and at night you here the "fluka" (local water taxi) docked on the Nile playing loud local music. With all the new hotels available it would be better to go to another hotel. My reason for staying here was that the people that I'm doing business were just across the street.

“January 2012 stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

After our Nile cruise, our Trafalgar tour booked us into this hotel for three nights. Try for a room with a Nile view-it's spectacular. Wi-fi is expensive, which is very annoying, but being able to walk across the parking lot to a seven story shopping mall was a real bonus. The buffet breakfast was incredible, and the service was excellent. Cairo museum and Tahrir square were visible from our very comfortable junior suite. There was no activity while we were there. The people were friendly and very welcoming. Keep a good sense of humor when dealing with the vendors. The public areas of the hotel had a great blend of locals and travelers. We appreciated the two for one happy hour in the Sherlock Holmes pub, since drink prices were high. I would go back to Egypt tomorrow if I could!

Room Tip: Ask for a Nile view.

As for your comment on the internet connection charges, please be informed that the internet services in most of the hotels in Egypt are provided through third party suppliers, therefore the internet prices are pre set through the supplier which should be on the same level of all five star hotels in Egypt.

“Stayed here in Dec. 2011”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

Cairo was quiet nearly a year after the Revolution. Some activity in the Square but limited in number and scope. We were returning from a short Nile Cruise experience (5-7 days but boat didn't leave mooring in Luxor for 3.) We only stayed at the Ramses for 2 nights but enjoyed the experience and found the hotel much more than adequate. Nice room with balcony overlooking city and traffic. As one reviewer mentioned traffic is nothing like the U.S. and it is amazing there are not that many accidents. I found the food good and more American than many places. I do not like spicy at all. We were on a tour with Brendan/Trafalgar companies and only six of us on the tour. Walking is an experience with all the vendors enthusiastically peddling their wares--very pushy. Also stayed at the Le Meridien Pyramids in Giza. Very nice.

Room Tip: I always ask for a quiet room away from families with children, if possible. I don't mind walki...

“Memorable stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

I stayed at this hotel just before the tumult in Cairo and had an excellent stay. I had a driver pick me up and that went well. Traffic around the hotel is unbelievably chaotic and I wouldn't have wanted to try to negotiate it on my own. Check in was efficient and my room was very nice. The balconies overlook the river and city, and the views at night are extraordinary. I actually left my balcony door open all night so that I could listen to the traffic noise outside.

I had a very good meal at the Citadel restaurant and a nice time at the bar in the lobby. This hotel is alive, and seemingly crawling with people who come in to socialize and use the hookahs. Very, very active and lively scene with lots of young, professional looking types.

Breakfast was great and the museum is virtually right across the street. Again, I recommend taking a driver or tour guide. Lots of people walk, but I felt like I would have taken my life in my hands doing that.

I definitely recommend this hotel for a first time in Cairo. The rooms might be a little bit older for a Hilton, but the overall experience more than makes up for it.
