I booked two tours with Ramses and coordinated the planning, all on email, from my home country. I started talking with two tour companies in the beginning, Memphis tours and Ramses tours. I got a more favorable and better response from Ramses at all times, trying to accommodate my requests. Ramses was a clear winner in both prompt and good service, even if the whole communication was only through emails. I should thank Ahmed and Yousry for being very good with responding back to my emails and my concerns about the trips. When at one point we had a communication gap, which happened after I arrived in Sharm el Sheikh, Ramses sorted it out and gave me complimentary upgrade for my troubles.
Now about the trips. We had booked two trips with Ramses. One day to Luxor and two days in Cairo. For both the trips we were picked up and dropped on time by smiling escorts/guides. Very good service there, as not one single time (no matter what hour of the day or if the plane was delayed) did we have to wait for our escort to pick or drop us. For both the trips, we got big cars, almost vans, with ample space for 4 people.
However, the one day trip to Luxor could have been a bit better. In any case, I loved Luxor too much to complain a lot about what was missing in our tour, but the guide, in my opinion, was not very thorough with the descriptions. He took us to the Valley of the Kings but did not come along with us inside the tombs to explain anything. We got a brief description outside every one of them which is weird because there are these information boards outside every tomb where you can read pretty much what he was saying – nothing special! We got to see 3 to 4 tombs but not Tutankhamen’s, which is the most famous one (as we found out later) because it did not occur to us to ask and our guide did not bother to tell. Lunch was included in the price of the trip which meant a cold, sad buffet lunch at Luxor Museum, where we landed up paying 15LE per person for a cola that we thought was more expensive than the plate of food we were eating (judging by its quality). However, this experience made us smarter and we requested our guide in Cairo to take us to his favorite local restaurant, where we could try some local food – which turned out to be a brilliant idea!
Coming back to Luxor trip, we liked everything arranged by Ramses and the guide did take us to all the places promised by Ramses in the itinerary agreed upon. This trip is highly recommended with Ramses and our guide Abdul, as long as he improves his dedication in retelling history. He was otherwise a very nice person. The highlight of the trip was that the manager of Ramses, Ehab, invited us for a cup of hibiscus tea at his house and treated us like kings. He had to sort out some administrative work with us and in that excuse we got to see the abode of a local Egyptian – simply priceless! He also dropped us in his private car to the airport, full of funny stories about the local life and culture of Egyptians.
The two day trip to Cairo was just amazing. We had a very good guide – Hany Mubarak and a good driver who took us to all the places agreed upon, and on our special request Hany took us to his favorite local eateries. We simply loved the food and the ambience and sat across local people from Cairo – it was brilliant! Hany was a very knowledgeable, interesting and passionate guide. It was a pleasure to listen to his stories and he gave us enough time to do our own stuff like hanging around admiring exhibits at the Egyptian Museum or taking a gazillion pictures at the Pyramids. He got us on camel rides at Giza (recommended) and also on a felucca ride (again recommended since the view of Cairo Skyline and the calmness of the Nile is just remarkable).
We knew that our guide in Luxor did not tell us many things about the places we visited because Hany kept referencing back and forth to tales and sights in Luxor, relating them to those in Cairo and we had only blank faces as a response even if we were in Luxor a couple of days earlier. Apart from that, we loved Hany as our guide and will recommend him very strongly – he knows Cairo and ask him about the Egyptian revolution you will hear some brilliant ideas from a young Egyptian who wants to bring a real change to the country.
All in all, our trips were arranged really well and special kudos to Hany Mubarak who was a wonderful guide. I will recommend this agency very highly!
