A Moroccan friend recommended Riad Doha and I was hesitant after reading the other reviews, but I do not believe the several negative reviews are warranted. I live in Morocco and have stayed at a number of riads, hotels and motels, and this is definitely excellent for what you usually find in Morocco. About the only negative thing I can say is that the room was a bit dark - the windows looked out into the center of the riad but there were no windows looking outside.
My husband had recently broken his leg and was on crutches so we were upgraded to the 1st floor suite. The bathroom was one of the largest I've seen in a riad in Morocco, with an area to sit in in the large shower (so it would work well for elderly or handicapped guests). There was plenty of hot water and it was consistent, not like many places in Morocco where sometimes it is hot and sometimes it is not.
We were with another couple when we arrived late on a Sunday night, and the management showed us to the rooftop terrace where we enjoyed the temperate evening climate with a cocktail and some snacks we'd brought along. They brought us glasses, plates, bowls and a large bottle of water, and showed us where we could store additional items in the refrigerator/freezer during our stay. A typical Moroccan breakfast was served there each morning as well, with different kinds of bread, coffee, tea, and fresh squeezed orange juice. Look for the pet turtle, birds, and an occasional visiting medina cat to join you for breakfast.
The management was friendly and very helpful. Since we went to dinner quite late (after 11:00PM), not a lot of restaurants were open. Several places they recommended were closed, but one remained open for us and they navigated with us through the mazes of the medina to find it. The customer service was definitely far above average. We paid right before we left after staying for several nights. I do not know if they accept credit cards, but since so many places in Morocco do not, I am used to paying with cash.
Another nice thing about the riad is its location. It is very close to the square and the souks but is in a very quiet alley with no traffic noise, people or cars. Our friends in the same riad said they were awakened by the call to prayer early in the morning, (which is also common almost everywhere in Morocco), but without an exterior window, we did not near it so slept right through it.
Everything in the riad and the room was clean, comfortable and working. (We kept the A/C on for most of the time as the days were still quite warm). I felt very safe and would definitely stay there again and recommend it to others.
