“hidden gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 May 2011

The Medina is not for the faint hearted & fragile sorts should stay away . But This is a hidden gem in the non-touristy bit of the Medina & it has two advantages : Firstly
, it allows you to investigate a neighbourhood you would never otherwise see and feel like a proper traveller as opposed to a corporate tourist and secondly it happens to be very close to a gate giving on to the new city : An easy walk to the center ( shops, cafes etc ) .
The Ryad itself really is a gem. The door opens onto the most lovely lush garden with sounds of water and birds . The rooms are luxurious and beautifully kept. There are books everywhere and because the evenings were a bit chilly we had dinner ( exquisitely prepared by Fahtima an experienced and imaginative young chef) in front of an open fire. The french couple who own this ryad are delightfull & will take everycare to make sure your stay is the best ever with detailed written instructions for finding your way down to 'La Place " . That on its own is worth the trip! For reasons as yet unexplained we were upgraded to the honeymoon room :Highly recommended.

Thank you for this comment. It looks like you've enjoyed your stay in Morocco. We hope to see you again, inch'Allah!
And we're glad that you've enjoyed Qerfa (the honeymooners' suite) that much. It is always nice to please people with an upgrade if possible.
Too bad you've had rain during most of your stay. Dinners on the roof terrace, under the stars have to be experienced as well...It really means that you'll have to come back!
Cheers

“Wonderful hosts, luxurious premises, superb experience.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 May 2011

A week of luxury and perfection. It is easily located (for Marrakech) and towards the northern end of the old city - a short, easily-walked distance from all the tourist mayhem but right in the middle of a safe and truly Moroccan neighbourhood. Emmanuel and Nadege are committed to their guests, giving of their time, advice and guidance on how to get the best out of this amazing city. What really counts is that they live on the premises and are constantly available. The house is amazingly clean and beautiful, and roof-top terrace a haven.

“Tranquility amidst the bustle of the city”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 April 2011

This is a truly beautiful and tranquil Riad. Like other reviewers we were glad that we were staying in the north of the Medina as we certainly saw a lot of the city, including areas right away from the tourists sites. We stayed in the Yasmine room which has a fabulous private terrace, we were so glad we booked this room and we made a lot of use of the terrace. Nadege and Emmanuel are really very helpful and friendly, I mentioned to them we had come to Marrakech as a birthday treat for my partner, and on the day they bought a 'happy birthday candle' with his breakfast pancakes, there were further happy birthday touches throughout out the day, including a lovely birthday dinner table in the court yard lounge which made the day really special for him.
We are both vegan's which B&B/hotel owners can be confounded by, but not here; Nadege and their cook Fatima ensured we had truly delicious and interesting food for breakfast and the 2 dinners we ate at Dar Ma Ward.
It is definitely worth booking a taxi through the Riad to pick you up at the airport when you arrive, especially if it is night time, otherwise you could end up very lost as there are no windows in the outside walls of the buildings in the Medina meaning the narrow streets look so similar.
If you are interested in Gardens, it is a very easy walk to Majorelle (Yves Saint Laurent lived here).

Hello,

We thank you for your nice comments.
It was actually an honor for us that you selected our guest house for your birthday and also trusted Fatima Ezzahra's cooking for your birthday dinner.
Being far away from the Square is a deliberate choice by us even if it is less "selling" at first glance.
Such high comments from people having experienced the reality of Marrakesh, and the Square and the bustle, makes us feel more confident in our decision.
Thank you again for choosing Dar Ma Ward.
Kind & Sunny regards,
Emmanuel & Nadège

“Escape from the souks into this beautiful oasis of calm ...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 March 2011

Riad Dar Ma Ward more than lived up to our expectations of a beautiful haven amidst the hustle and bustle of Marrakech. As four stressed out mums, it was fantastic to have the Riad to ourselves and to indulge in the lovely food, the stunning surroundings and the great roof terrace. Nadege, Emmanuel and their staff were friendly, attentive yet unobtrusive and offered very helpful advice in their knowledge of the city. We enjoyed the Riad's location within the Medina walls as it was easy to reach with your cases and shopping (!) from a taxi, yet provided you with a long, safe and interesting walk through the narrow streets and food markets to the souks and the square. Many tourists would miss the real side of the city staying in riads and large hotels much closer to the square. Dar Ma Ward is a real find and we all hope to return some time in the future on another girls' weekend, with our families or if we can persuade our husbands to return on a romantic break!!

Thank you very much for this kind comment and for sharing your impressions with potential guests.
We are more than happy that you all found what you were looking for at Dar Ma Ward.
It also seems that you shared and understood our philosphy which can be summed up in two words : tranquility and serenity.
For this very reason, we are located outside of the touristy classics.
For that same reason too, we try not to overwhelm our guests while being available when they need us.
Hope to have you back, on a girly week-end or with your familie, inch’Allah.

“Blissful stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 February 2011

This is a beautiful hotel run by a French couple who pay huge attention to detail and were helpful in the most unobtrusive way - we were able to relax at any time of day and loved the rooftop terrace where breakfast was served. Food was delightful and the service charming. The riad is in the peaceful northern corner of the medina and although we got lost several times the first day we soon realised we would never have seen so much of the medina had we been based closer to the souks. Wave away the many unhelpful guides with a smile, especially the boys who tell you the road ahead is closed.
