My wife and I spent get-away weekend in the Arcola, Illinois, “gateway to the Amish Country.” The area is home to some 4,500 Amish and we went in the middle of October, at the height of harvesting and Fall colors. This was just the weekend we wanted. Slow paced. Relaxed. With lots to see and do. For the “base of operations,” we stayed at the Arcola Flower Patch B&B. Hosts Bill and Lynne were most gracious – and fascinating people in their own right. Bill is retired from teaching History in the Public Schools, and Lynne is an artist, primarily painting on porcelain. The rooms were very clean, and beautifully decorated. Perhaps the décor was a bit baroque for my taste, but my wife loved it. And after all … the weekend WAS for her! Plus, they have a great gazebo that overlooks a gorgeous garden, a great place for enjoying a bottle of wine under a full moon. Lynne and Bill also serve an elegant “7-course breakfast” the was excellent and a great start for two full days.
We highly recommend The Flower Patch for anyone wanting a quiet get-away.
