“Great the Second Time!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

This was our second time staying in Room 6 at Helens, and we loved it once again. Jack, of course, was wonderful--always cheerful and friendly. The flowers were really beautiful and the grounds, pools, and beach were clean and maintained.

The new action item for us was the small herd of cows who made their daily trek down the beach each morning to the grass next to and behind Helen's. They evidently returned to their home each evening. One cow was the leader and the rest obediently followed. The farmer must have trained them well!

Again, I recommend Helens Villa if you are in the La Ceiba area for a period of time. Great place for couples or families.

Room Tip: Rooms 5 & 6 have King beds and are on the second floor, allowing for great views from the patio...

“Nice beach - nice staff.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

We stay 3 nights at Villa Helen's just after newyears. We really loved the location and thought the staff and owners were terrific. The location is out of the way so you get a Resort-like feel but without the isolation and pretention. We wish we had stayed longer at Villa Helen's and done a daytrip or two to Cayos Cocinos instead of taking the time (and $) to go out to Utila. We did use the hotel has a base for exploring Pico Bonito NP on our own and it was terrific. We didn't take a guided tour through the Hotel but they can make the arrangements if you'd like one.

“Great place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 September 2011

I was staying at Helens for a night in august, and I must say that the place was a treat. They have a two rooms on the first floor which is really spectacular - Central American standards considered. The view is great - you can walk directly out on the beach, if you are not found of the pool, and to the other side you can see the rainforest and the mountains. Great place. Especially if you are considering to see Cayos Cochinos...

“Great Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 August 2011

We discovered Helen's on a previous trip through Honduras. Returning from Trujillo we stopped in Sambo Creek to break up the drive back to El Salvador. We had an awful experience at Hotel Canadien (you can read the reviews there) but discovered Helen's, which we tucked away for our next trip.

Helen's is run by Helen, Jacques (Jack), and Alain. They are extremely accomodating and friendly. The rooms are budget priced and clean. There is cable TV, internet, and air conditioning. Sometimes the internet is down, but you can make the short walk to Sambo Creek along the beach and get it there. You will probably make this walk anyway because sometimes you may want to try the restaurants in town and the kitchen at Helen's closes early during the week.

There are pools, and the beach features beige-colored sand. Tip: do not carry any valuables to the beach. My wife had some items stolen there.

Sambo Creek is about 20 kilometers from La Ceiba. More easily reached by car: your own, a rental, or a taxi.

The food is good and the drinks from the bar are excellent (thank you, Fabio).

Worth the trip!

Room Tip: Try for the larger rooms on the second floor. Cost only a bit more; have nice terraces.
