I just returnedvfrom a 2 week stay in Honduras. I stayed at Palma Real Hotel which was more than I expected it to be for a 4 star hotel. My room ws very clean. tThe bed, bathroom and balcony were cleaned every day. it is a beautuful country and I will return. The excursions I took were excellent and the trip organizer Dorothy was very friendly and took care of even the smallest details. I want to compliment Sunwing on their choice of rep for this hotel. Francine was welcoming and very helpful. On the ride to the hotel from the airport Francine pointed out variouis interesting things as we passed trhough La Ceiba.Francine works very hard to meet everyone"s needs. From my experience she goes above and beyond to meet her client's requests. I never saw her turn a client away when asked a question or just for a social chat.

Room Tip: Room with an ocean view and a balcony on a high floor.

We were not impressed by the hotel itself or the beach but the food is excellent, very tasty.
This place is a fairly new destination, they do not understand the concept of tourist we were mixed with the locals of honduras and many times they come befeore us travellers.
I was expecting clear water like Cuba but the water is brown because it mixes with the sand.
The Canopy tour was just awesome and the thermals natural baths are not to be missed waer was about 95% and its a real paradise in the mountain, they chrage 45$ perperson or 35$ just for the bath they both include the bain with a massage & mud bath, I suggest you call a taxi & pay $5.00 to bring you there is a 5min drive and you will pay $10.00 less at the entrance and wont have a time limit.
There is no diving on site we had to take a taxi to a ferry to roatan islands very coslty extra.

Room Tip: book on the Palma side and the the Caribe

“Decent stay - decent price”

On a budget, as we travelled with a large group, we took a chance on Honduras. We were not disappointed. Although the rainforest lived up to its name, we did have some very hot sun over the New Year's break. In point form, let's sum up:
- a LOT of Quebecers (good or bad) as Sunwing only flies out of Montreal in the East to La Ceiba, but the staff knows English very well
- we travelled with kids of all ages: not a ton to do, but they had fun nonetheless
- excursions were very affordable and the canopy tour/zip line is recommended
- staff goes WELL out of their way to accommodate and make you happy
- stay in the main resort with a pool/balcony view
- free wireless!
- food has no variety, but is decent at the 2 a la cartes
- BRING BUG SPRAY
- you are very discouraged not to leave the resort
- the airport is a treat (very sarcastic)
- be prepared for $38US/pp departure tax

Room Tip: Choose the main resort

“Could be better”

In Feb 2010 my fiancee and I had found a great deal for an all inclusive week in roatan but got stuck on a layover due to a snow storm and Taca airlines (do not fly with them!) refused to fly us to our destination until the day before we returned so we cancelled our trip and tried to book another one instead. We found Palma Real on expedia and it looked ok for an all inclusive. The looks are ok but it was not worth the money. The room looked nice but had ant trails in the bedroom and mold in the shower. Then the beach had dirty diapers and used condoms. We were stuck there during stormy weather so it could have just been washed up from the wind and rain but its not something I wanna see on vacation. The all inclusive was not great. The hotel is surrounded by security since the area is not that great and on our ride there we saw a dead horse on the side of the road. We left the hotel for a few days in roatan (there is an hr ferry ride that takes you) and it was beautiful! We stayed in a $40 a night cabana on the water and it was a much better experiece. I hate to leave a bad review becuase the staff were nice and tried to please the guests, but its just really hard to recommend it to others. I suggest Roatan instead its just as cheap with way more to do. It has been awhile so things may have improved.

“Not a four star. Resort was lacking but excursions were breathtaking.”

We stayed at this resort for one week in Feb 2011.
Food: three out of four of us were sick. Food was not good at all
Drinks: always had beer, wine, and other mixed drinks
Room: our room was very damp and moldy. There was a strong musty smell and the AC did not work well. Our phone also did not work
Entertainment: I regret to say that it was not good at all. Apologies to the staff.
Beach: polluted river runs into the ocean right on the resort beach. Water was not clear at all. Only swam in the ocean once.
Pool: crowded
Other: this resort was not safe for women to be alone. LADIES WATCH YOUR DRINKS at the disco!
Excursions: Excellent! Cayos Cohinos and the zip lining tour over the hot springs were amazing tours that I will never forget.
There is no way this is a 4* resort. Safety was my biggest concern. I did not feel safe in the resort, in town, or on the zip lining tour. I would not go back to this resort. I would go to Roatan and take a day trip over to see the hot springs again.
