We felt lucky to have local guide, German, for this great birding experience. The meal package left something to be desired.available By day 3, we were tired of our choices. The selections for the non birder's package had twice as many choices.

The Lodge at Pico Bonito could not be in a more beautiful and serene location. We stayed 4 nights. The grounds are gorgeous and the cabins are well-appointed--no bath tubs, just a shower. Our cabin had overhead fans and air conditioning, which was nice as the temperature was warm and humid. The food was a bit uneven...some of it was out of this world and at other times it was marginal. The wait staff, especially Carlos and Benny, were great! The other staff were very attentive and helped us arrange several outings. One of the most interesting was our trip to see the Adalante Foundation meeting at a local village. They provide micro loans for women to start their own businesses...we attended a meeting with a loan officer and about 10 women. It was fascinating to hear about their successes and struggles. We also went white water rafting at a river about 45 minutes from the lodge. The guides were excellent and the white water was good...mostly 2-3 rapids with a couple 4 rated sets of rapids.

We shared a delightful week there with friends. The weather was surprisingly great. Coming from the coast of CA, we were not looking forward to high humidity and temps of 85 plus. Turns out we always comfortable and didn't even turn on the air conditioning in our spacious room.

Our guide made the trip for those that are birders. Knowledgeable and remarkable with the scope, it made for a wonderful experience. The guides know more than birds and learning more about the rainforest is a plus.

We enjoyed our evenings at the bar and then dinner on the veranda. The meals were more than satisfying. We all found our favorites as we were there 5 nights.

All the staff are helpful and they go out of their way to accommodate our schedules. There were many choices for the non-birders amongst us to make them happy including snorkeling and a trip to Cuero y Salado Wildlife Refuge which included a trip on a 1904 narrow gage train and a power boat ride reminiscent of our time on the Amazon.

Highly recommend this trip.

The little lodge is very cute with free wi-fi and a huge breakfast and a wicked rum welcome cocktail!
The rooms/lodges are large with a large bed or two double beds. The bathrooms are basic with a shower, no bath. When it rains it is very noisy on the roof and at night it is quite hard getting too and from your room as the paths are not very well lit so take a torch.
The lodge offer heaps of complimentary activities as well as paid activities & you could easily spend a day wandering around the grounds. We were greeted with humming birds outside on the trees at breakfast - a beautiful site. Perfect for nature lovers and bird watchers.
