Our TACA flight from San Pedro Sula to Roatan stopped in La Ceiba and they decided not to fly us to the island - for reasons only known to TACA. Apparently it happens alot.
So TACA put us up in Hotel Monserratte, which according to Lonely Planet "exudes cool upscale class". Not sure if the author has any idea what cool upscale class is though.
I would not class a concrete block surrounded by razor wire with guards dressed in flip flops and armed with machine guns and rooms with no windows cool upscale class.
I would be more likely to say it was clean, lacking in character and ugly. Seeing the guards didnt exactly give you the impression this is a safe place to stay either.
However, the beds were firm, it had air-con, an OK bathroom and a TV.
If you are looking for somewhere in La Ceiba, I wouldnt recommend this place, unless of course TACA is paying - which is a distinct possibility if you are planning on taking the last flight of the day to Roatan!
