“Good hotel, but be sure you get a good room!”

First we stayed in another hotel, but did not enjoy our stay there, so we came to Bonifaz without luggage to check the rooms. We asked whether the had a room available and if we could see it. We specificly asked for a quite room. We were shown a nice room, decided to take it and went to get our bags. When we came back they suddenly gave us another room claiming that the other room was occupied already. That was quite rude as the room they were offering us now was smaller and in a part that would be quite noisy. I started a discussion with them and after being stubborn to get a better room, they showed us two other rooms. Still not good. Finally after some more discussion they showed us rooms further in the back of the hotel and more remote. Really big, comfy rooms. We choose one and had a good stay. Excellent shower and great beds. Not cheap, but this room was finally worth the money. There is also a room with several computers you can use free of cost.
We paid Q600 excluding breakfast.

“There are better places to stay in Xela. Look elsewhere”

Overall Bonifaz is NOT a good bargain. Pluses are location, ppol and parking ( if you have a car) Great location a few meters from the park but again there are much better options all within a few blocks.
For Guatemala this 700Q (85USD) room is seriously overpriced.
Like most Guatemalan (cheap) Hotels, they turn off the water heater during the day to say a few pennies. Not something you expect from a hotel in this price range. So if you want to take a hot shower anywhere between 10am-8pm you are out of luck. Also the 2 dollar remote control was chained to the table besides the bed. Go figure. Ok, i guess they are worried about their clientele stealing the remotes. Looks pretty TACKY. Not something you should see in a hotel of this price range.

“A nice option, great location.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2011

This hotel is rather large in the scheme of things in Xela and even Guatemala as a whole, we prefer boutique or family run properties, we arrive in the evening and were tired and hungry so this place was obvious good choice. The rooms are a tad sparse and not a lot of charm, at least on the front, the there are rooms all the way to rear up a sidestreet. It has everything you would need and a nice staff and cozy lounge area, though no fire in the fireplace on a cold Jan night was too bad. It nails the 3 important factors, clean, safe and good service.

“Not a nice place to stay”

I ended up here on a business trip, and I was so dissapointed by my company's choice! The place has a good location right in front of the main Plaza, with some good restaurants near by. But the place is really cold and there should be some heating system there, I couldn't get any sleep!! Plus the walls are sooo thin and you can hear everything in the rooms next to you and in the halls! The place is quite old, my toilet didn't work properly and the shower heated poorly (which was a huge problem when the it's around 50°F/10°C.
It has an endeering architecture and an interesting layout.
