“renewed my faith in b&b's”

We stayed at Iluka from Dec 30, 2011 for three nights. We were jet lagged from our travel from Canada and were so happy when we arrived at Iluka for our stay. The space was fantastic. Sitting room, extra bedroom, comfy room for us and private bathroom. We had champagne waiting for us, cupboard with tea, coffee, cookies. TV with movies and a balcony overlooking their garden. Kathy and John were just lovely and made us feel so welcome in their home.

Breakfasts were all fabulous... kathy asked us each evening what we would like and she made a wonderful breakfast every morning. We had excellent conversations with both Kathy and John each day. John even gave me some stamps to take home for my niece who collects stamps....gave my husband a book on repairs for the home. They took such an interest in us and wanted to go above & beyond.

I read the review of the person who stayed before us and I couldn't disagree more.... they gave us our space when we needed it, but opened up their home to us. When the nice weather finally arrived, they allowed us to use their private deck, got us set up with deck chairs and then brought out a glass of wine for us. We offered them to join us and truly enjoyed the afternoon prior to leaving for dinner.

Their home is immaculate and designed well for a b&b. In the evening, they have doors that close to their private residence, you really feel that you are in your own little apartment.

Leading up to our stay here, I was not a fan of B&B's at all.... they renewed my faith. Kathy is the perfect hostess and takes pride in everything she does. John is easy to talk to and loves a good chat.

Their home is a 2 minute walk to a beach....not necessarily the prettiest beach compared to Onera, but close to Iluka, clean and a great area to relax. I would suggest having a vehicle for your stay in Waiheke, it is a fabulous island to explore and a car is a must!

Thanks Kathy& John for a fabulous stay!

“Technically a B&B, but didn't feel like one.”

I found the rooms to be quite well-supplied with tea, coffee, ironing board, soap, towels etc. The bed was quite comfortable. However, the rooms are basically nicely-decorated spare rooms in the owners' (Kathy and John) house (they appear to use the cupboards for storage) which changed the feel of it. The rooms are quite comfortable though. The patio overlooks a typical suburban backyard, and the ocean view with breakfast is across Kathy and John's living room. They offer ferry pickup and drop off - but don't bother asking if you're staying one night as they'll refuse. We found that to be quite rude. They did drop us off at the bus stop 100m away as it was raining.

They stood near us and watched us eat breakfast which was a bit awkward and Kathy had a phone conversation about 1m away while I was trying to read the paper. I expect some privacy with breakfast at a B&B. The breakfast was quite good however. I left wondering if the owners had ever actually been to a B&B or just seen one in photos as the service left a lot to be desired. I felt a bit like an interloper in someone else's house.

thankyou for your feed back.We want our guests to have a wonderful experience so we do welcome constructive feed back.I am sorry we were unable to offer ferry pickup .It was something we deleted from our services& although it was deleted from our main website it wasnt removed from click for more information & has now been corrected. However If circumstances permit and we dont have back to back bookings we can collect .
Most guests choose ro stayat bed & breakfasts as they like to meet the locals& part of their experience is that the hosts offer local knowledge & conversation. It is unfortunate you did not explainyour need for privacyas we would have ensured that was available for you. We watch guests eat their breakfast ( and this has never been a problem before) as we like to make sure they do not require anything.
I am sorry you were offended by me taking a phone call_ we are running a business & it is imperative that we are available for phone calls form guests Of course,if it was a private call it would have been answered away from the main area.
Yes we have stayed at several bed & breakfasts & lodges & we personally prefer to interact with the hosts
otherwise we wouldchoose to stay at an impersonal hotel or self contained.appartment

“A great Kiwi welcome!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 December 2011

We have just spent a lovely few days at the Iluka B&B on Waiheke Island. The hosts, Kathy and John, could not be more welcoming or accommodating.

The rooms were comfortable and quiet; perfect for recovering from a flight from the UK. Kathy has a great attention for detail and the rooms contained pretty much everything we needed. The rooms are not in a fully self-contained annex, but are integrated into the house. Having said that, there is plenty of privacy.

The breakfasts were generous and delicious, with high quality ingredients, really setting us up for the day.

Iluka is set off the beaten track and away from the more touristy parts of the island. There are lovely views of the sea from the breakfast room and it is a stone's throw from the start of a great tramping track along the coast/cliffs to the Te Whau winery, which has one of the loveliest views on the island.

“A relaxing stay.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 December 2011

We had a wonderful two night getaway staying at Iluka. Kathy and John were perfect hosts. Lovely room and lounge, great bed and cooked breakfast. Two coves to walk to. Hire the car through Kathy and get a great welcome at the Car rental. We cruised the island checking out the wineries, beautiful houses and beaches. Listen to Kathys advice on where to eat, you won't go wrong. I have reviewed the eating places as well. Mudbrick winery,(Lunch platter for two Yum). Charlie Farley, Great dinner, sitting on the deck watching the waves roll in..

“Best breakfast you can wish for and take the car deal!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 November 2011

We stayed two nights and took the deal with the car and kayak. Great value. We had a private balcony, roomy place, tea, bikkies and hosts who really cared and gave great tips for dinner places. Would love to return.
