Read reviews and looked forward to staying here! Very disappointed! We had the Captain's Cabin and were told we wouldn't need/want to leave. There was outside seating but It was raining and there was no indoor seating (except the bed). The outside BBQ had cockroaches in it and little gas - no outside light- had to ask for a pot and plates. Torch supplied but didn't work. Inside - only 1 out of 3 light bulbs in main light worked and shade was hanging off that, no Sky TV - only very old TV with 3 chanels, no hairdryer. Breakfast was included but 3 days supply was left at start and not refilled. Fridge was so small very little fitted in it. There was no room service at all - extra towels could be collected in main house if you wanted more than 1 towel for 3 days. Didn't see rooms in the main house to know it they were any different. At $150 per night this room was not worth the money and certainly not 4 star quality. There was internet access for those who wanted it and it was very central to the waterfront.

We stayed in a very characterful room with a four-poster bed but hardly any wardrobe space, just a rail over the fridge! The Lodge is an old building which has been tastefully refurbished. There was free internet but no working guest telephones available. Tasty breakfasts were served by the jovial manager in a pleasant breakfast room.

Booked this for 1 night to break a long trip in half - so glad we stayed here! A great little place - looks nothing much outside, but BJ was so friendly and helpful, the room was so clean, he had turned the jug on before we got there, and we got breakfast the next morning too! Highly recommend this to anyone looking for very clean very comfortable very quiet room.

This little place is easy to pass up. It was charming, very clean, and had some of the friendliest staff I found in all NZ. I was on my way to explore more of the south island and I choose to extend my stay another four day because of this great little town and lodge. Plus they had very good rates for all they offered.
