We booked Glengary for the two nights at start and end of our walk on the Queen Charlotte Track. We drove in, left our bags and then returned our hire car as we were off to the North Island afterwards. It is not far to walk down to the town or the QC track water taxis, a bit farther to the ferry terminals. We were able to leave the luggage we didn't need whilst we walked.
Glenys and Gary were very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The room was good, we had one with a nice view over the harbour. As others have said, there is an upstairs lounge with cookies, tea and coffee and sauvignon blanc plus a tv if you want it (not one in the room, which didn't worry us). Plenty of books to read and possibly exchange. Excellent breakfasts with fruit, cereals, bread/toast etc - more than enough for us.
As an example of their helpfulness, I came back from the QC track boat to do some washing, took it all down to the laundrette and found that there were no soap machines - you could buy soap from the "office" but that was closed, despite signs saying it was open, and remained closed. I was taking it all back when I met Glenys, who offered to drive me back, found some soap and then brought me back to the laundrette. We left on the afternoon ferry to Wellington, and she brought our luggage down to the ferry terminal and met us there (we had wandered round the town for an hour or two)
Picton is a lovely small town in a beautiful area - we would happily go back - and would stay again at Glengary
