The hotel is immaculately clean and the staff seems sincere in their desire to serve. The property is well kept and conveniently connected to the Druskininkai spa through a modern, heated glass-enclosed walkway. Drawbacks: the place suffers from the typical post-Communist psyche seen throughout Eastern Europe... lights left off to conserve on electricity to the point of near absolute darkness and insufficient bedding for cold-weather stays, as if Lenin were barking out orders to the housekeeping staff. Positives: the bathrooms are relatively modern (but no Western showers, just hand-held sprayers in the tub), and modest but good restaurant. Europa Royale is a chain out of Latvia; as they compete against Western chains, they will learn to train their staff better and attend to things such as lighting to make sure guests feel at home, if this chain wants to survive and expand. Go here if you are not bothered by these problems; if you are a finicky guest, then consider another hotel.
