This was our first trip to Bratislava so were unsure of where to stay and what to expect. We came across the Old Town Apartment on a few websites and it seemed like it was in a good location, it looked modern and best of all it was a very good price.
Well we were right! It was absolutely perfect. We stayed in a studio which was on the top floor of a quiet office block right in the heart of the old town. It felt very secure and there was a terrace where you could sit outside and enjoy views up to the castle. This would be even better in summer time. The apartment was modern and clean, had a bathroom and separate toilet, kitchenette with microwave, fridge, kettle and hob so we stocked up on a few essentials from Tesco (yes, Tesco is absolutely huge in Bratislava about 10 minutes from the apartment through the square). The apartment owners were very helpful and although our confirmation stated you had to pay in cash, you could actually pay by card in their travel office.
A few recommendations - taxis at the airport are well overpriced, we took the no. 31 bus from right outside the airport (buy tickets from the exchange kiosk inside) you need a 30 minute ticket (each) for the bus and then a 30 minute ticket (each) for the tram, the bus takes you to the train/tram station (last stop). You need the number 13 tram and get off at the 5th stop (Postova). Always remember to validate your ticket when you get on the bus/tram. The whole journey (bus and tram) took us 40 minutes from the airport and cost less than £2 (for 2 of us).
Also recommend Pizza Mizza, for the best pizzas ever (50cm!!) and yes they are for sharing! Also, Kogo (italian) in the square near to the Radisson hotel is exceptional, expensive, but worth it. Both you can find online and it is best to book as both were full when we visited (tues & wed nights).
You can also go to Vienna on the Twin City tourer (boat) you will find the kiosk near the foot of the Novymost bridge (to the left). It is approx 28 euros p.p
Enjoy your stay, we will be back!
