Villa Medici is a small, familiar hotel, in the valley, close to viaduct and the zoo. It is definitely worth 4-star. Double room w/ breakfast was EUR 100 per night. The pros are the followings:
- one of its restaurant (Villa Medici, do not go to the mid-priced other one) is probably the best in Hungary. It is not an overstatement, including the best restaurants in Budapest, it is still true: probably the best in the country, as also said by “Wittmann fiúk”, the emblematic Hungarian twin writers
- The massage was the best you can get in a hotel, unlike the robot style big chain hotel practise, here you get real service and it is not pricey at all. Ask for Joli, she is incredibly good.
- Small, but very stylish, comfortable wellness area, w/ small swimming pool, Jacuzzi, dry and steam saunas, relaxing area. We literally spent the whole day there and had a wonderful time…
- Lovely small pub, nice décor
- Overall very clean hotel, helpful (but not assertive) staff, comfortable beds, airy rooms
Now some contras:
- the décor in the restaurant, in the rooms (except for the pub and the wellness area) terrible, the typical 80s Hungarian style when somebody had money but no taste…
- when we were there, the hotel utilisation rate was below 50%, in case it runs full capacity this lovely small hotel can be crowded
