The hotel is ideally located on the ring road circling the old town. Sopron is a nice little town with a wealth of local museums, some of them quite impressive (try the archeological museum and the 18th century flat conserved in the same building).
The hotel is a large building in 19th century Grand Hotel style, somewhat faded (carpets etc. in the public spaces), with nice chandeliers and grand halls. The room (booked as single, but it was a spacious double with two single beds) looked recently (re)done, the reproduction furniture was rather on the cheap side, the bed was good, the neighbors audible. Bath and room were clean (although the drapes were already faded), the aircondition was noisy and without much effect.
Dinner at the restaurant (the most expensive option I encountered in Sopron) left me with mixed impression: an excellent starter was followed with a main course with excellent sauce and accompaniment, but rather stringy venison. Breakfast (included) was the standard buffet affair, but with lots of fruit.
Service was very friendly (especially booking via telephone and check in), but not all local information I obtained at front desk was correct (I was looking for a bus to the nearby Spa-village of Balf and was directed to the main bus station across town, but the bus, I accidently discovered, actually left near the hotel...).
There are several fitness and Spa options at the hotel that I did not try.
