“A place where you can relax”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 December 2011

Situated in the Western part of Hungary Hotel Spirit Sárvár is the best 5 star spa hotel in Hungary. 22 pools, saunas, special medical treatment, sport activities can contribute to your relaxation and well-being. International and specific Hungarian dishes are prepared with great care and add a special flavour to all the delight you can enjoy there. I highly recommend this hotel to everybody who needs some rest.

“nice spa hotel with astronomical prices”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 November 2011

This hotel is supposed to be the best 5 star property outside of Budapest. This statement is simply not true. Previous reviewers wrote that this is luxury. There is no luxury here. They fall short trying.

The property was built around 4 years ago and originally was a member of the Rogner hotel and spa group...but for reasons unknown to me the name was soon taken back so the hotel was left on its own.

Once you arrive you notice 2 things. One is that the hotel is located in the "middle" of nowhere and the over is when u enter u see that this hotel was built with a very keen sense on style and interior design. The lobby is beautiful.

The rooms on the other hand are a disappointment. We had and upgraded room and even that was a let down. Its a 4 star quality room at best with a nice bathroom a non-see thru window bathroom door.

HOUSEKEEPING:
this worked like in a 2 star hotel. Very poor quality room cleaning. I would fire the manager.

The hotel has a Austrian general manager and an all Hungarian staff who all seem to have a good attitude towards the guest. There is one employee that needs special introduction. He is Pista bácsi but i will get to him discussing the spa area. Just a note about tipping. Every price has a 10% service charge included but i later found out the waiters don't get it so if u feel like tipping...then it will be more than welcome

FOOD:
This is where the most room is for improvement. Clearly the food and beverage manager seems to be lacking in experience. The 3 times u will most likely experience food every day is breakfast in the morning....daytime snacks in the oxygen bar...and dinner if u have half board payed.
BREAKFAST: Very good selection. Good variety and quality.
SNACKS (Oxygen bar): Clearly they don't have a clue about what snacks mean and instead they have this strange menu with main courses and tons of alcohol. U can also choose a bufe style lunch for 4500HUF per person. Way over priced for what they are serving.
DINNER: (if u don't pay half board then u will end up roaming the streets of sarvar (if u have a car that is) which i don't recommend. Pay for half board. Its like on a cruise ship. Ur stuck here anyway. )
You can see that they try hard to be elegant and luxurious. The starters every day consist of different kind of home made paté's. With the exception of one they are all awful. The soups are also a disappointment. The main coursed are fine with the cocking station turning out 2 kinds of grill meat every night. The salad station is SUPER. The desserts are awful.

SPA:
Last but not least. This is the crown jewel of the hotel. Without this -honestly- this resort would be useless. It has an over 10000 square meter spa area with a good number of pools in and outside. Its has a nice but small sauna area with a wonderful sauna "mester" as they call him. His name is Pista bácsi and he is the best. He made our sauna sessions an absolute dream. Keep in mind u have to be naked in the sauna area. Its a must.

All in all: with these prices I would not come back. If the owners would re-think there pricing policy then i would be open to it.

Dear Reviewer,

Many thanks for your hotel review on tripadvisor.com.

We apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused by whole heart. Only through constructive criticism, it is possible to achieve the standards set as soon as possible.

The Spirit Hotel Thermal & Spa has received the designation best 5 star hotel outside Budapest by several national and international media. The Spirit Hotel was awarded as the winner of the main category - destination spas - with the "European Health & Spa Award 2010". Already after a few years, we have over 50% regulars. This is surely a clear sign that the quality is not bad in our Spirit Hotel.

The cooperation with the former Rogner group was terminated after a short time. There here many misunderstandings as the Rogner group has no 5 star hotel in management.

The Spirit Hotel is located 10 minutes away from the centre of Bad Sarvar, which is a member of "Royal Spas of Europe". In walking distance you will find several nice restaurants and coffee shops as well as bars.

In Hungary its customary to charge a service fee of between 10% and 15%. This system can also be found in many other countries (Austria, Germany, Slovakia ….). Of course, this amount will be divided among the employees at the end of each month. However, this is like in other countries, no typing.

Regarding the food in our house, I want to say that we try very hard to offer our guests the local cuisine. Unfortunately, tastes are different. At this point I have to inform you that we are constantly working to improve our quality in this filed. Not only certified organic products but also training with top chefs from neighbouring countries for over a year are part of our training program.

I am happy to hear that our spa and specifically our employee Pista in the sauna meet to your expectations.

Regarding our price-performance ratio, I must inform you that we are in comparison to our competitors in the lower middle.

Although I would like nothing more I'm sorry again wholeheartedly for the inconvenience. I guess personally, that we are dealing with a series of unfortunate circumstances.

As a small thank you for your efforts I offer you on your next visit a reduction of 25% on room rate. Unfortunately, we do not know your name and address. I would be delighted if you could contact me personally - Alfred Hackl gm@spirithotel.eu - giving us the opportunity to revise the resulting first impression. Personally, I would be delighted have a dinner or a glass of wine together.

Awaiting your esteemed reply, I remain with best regards from the Spirit Hotel.

“Very good quality, a touch too expensive”

We spent a great weekend at the Spirit Hotel during the last hot weekend of the summer. We rented a suite for my wife, teenage daughter and me, which was perfect having separate bathrooms and 2 TVs! The suite had all the facilities you would expect, with tea/coffee maker and complementary fruit and water. The rooms are very stylish and modern, although the low ceilings in the restaurant reminded us of a cruise ship.
The pools and spa area are really impressive - large, spacious and lots of sunbeds. The materials used are pretty luxurious, with lots of marble, glass and impressive architecture. We were glad of the space, but wondered what this place is like in Winter.
The restaurant was good, with a buffet with excellent quality, although the service at dinner was slow and inattentive. This was just bad luck, as the breakfast service was excellent.
The outside area was perfect with spacious grounds and lots of pools.
Positive: lots of space, luxurious, great design, wonderful pools.
Negative: rather expensive. Even higher than competing hotels over the border in Austria, which beat the Spirit Hotel on service and cuisine. We we here for one night, just over 24 hours in total and still I virtually had to beg for a late check-out, which is almost standard procedure for a weekend getaway. They wanted to charge 35 Euros for a late check-out, but after pleading twice and saying it was my birthday (it was!), we finally got one. Poor.

On the whole good but not excellent - for this kind of money they have to try MUCH harder.
