“More of a rented room than hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 September 2011

'Hotel' very centrally placed and the room itself was spacious and clean when we arrived. However there were several lamps missing, the shower could only be used by holding the shower head. the tv didn't work, hot water was not always available, and our room was never visited by a cleaner in the 5 nights we were there. The owner also runs the restaurant below, plus another about 200 yards away. We think he had the 'hotel' just to get more cash. But renting the room was very cheap (late Sept) so we just used it as a base. We never used the restaurant as it didn't look too clean. Look in some of the smaller side streets to find better value.

“AVOID the restaurant unless you want to be ripped off! Eat on Raday Street instead for quality food & excellent service”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 September 2011

Seriously avoid this restaurant unless you want to be over charged, underserved and left feeling very frustrated !! The homemade soup was straight out of a packet and served with stale bread. Hungarian Goulash was a joke and veg & patatoes were charged as 2 extra portions. No price list given with the drinks so a large beer was nearly €8 as was a glass of wine. I have no problem paying this money once I know the cost in advance. The waiters couldn't have cared less and said they never had a complaint about the food before - reeding these reviews I'm just laughing as they must hear the same complaints everyday !!

A few 100 yards away is a street called Raday Street (about 50yards from Kalvin Metro Station) with a great selection of good quality restaurants and quirky bars for all different price ranges. It's welcome oasis from the crap food and poor service you get from a lot of the places on Vaci Street!

“BEWARE before staying here- & Only as a Last Resort!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 August 2011

We wouldn't have booked it if we read the reviews, we forced to give them a chance. I still don't recommend this 'hotel' at all. The location itself is great-walking distance to many sites, shops, restos. Everything was clean. It's just a couple of rooms in an apartment building above a restaurant so there weren't any staff to look after guests. If you want something keep bugging the English speaking waiters/managers for eg. new towels, toilet paper, &hot water. We asked for hot water everyday for 5 days! On our last night, we had to ask 4x to no avail until I made a huge racket. It seems like we were forced to make a scene to get any assistance. Complain loudly if things get bad!

Room Tip: It's noisy until 1am. Be persistent if you need service. Keep the key on you.

“Rip Off Restaurant. AVOID.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 March 2011

I am hardly surpirsed by all the negative reviews about this place. We fell for the same trick. We were offered 50% off food but were totally ripped off. We reckoned our bill should have came about about 6000ft....but it was 13000ft. We were the only ones in the restaurant, and the guy just stood there waiting for the money..he didn't go away and come back like in any other restaurant. I knew we had been had but all of a sudden we felt rather uncomfortable and we aware of a guy hanging around next to the door. We paid up and left without making a fuss. It was by far and away the most expensive meal we had. £45 ish for a glass of wine (which was horrendous and tasted like home brew), a large beer and 2 main courses. No starters, no dessert. They even had the cheek to charge us for the bread which we didn't ask for.

To be fair...the food was decent and the style of the place is quirky. It is such a shame that they have to rip off tourists who visit their city/country with good will and a genuine interest in their food and culture.

Fortunatley, there are many honest places...I would just suggest exercising caution on Vaci Utca restaurants offering a tourist menu.

AVOID THIS PLACE.

“Disgraceful rip off restaurant on Vati Utca”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 March 2011

Please please avoid this restaurant like the plague. My husband and I were staying at the Cosmo Fashion Hotel near this restaurant. Having jusgt arrived in Budapest we decided to have a walk up the Vati Utca to find a nice meal. The guy outside this restaurant started talking to us saying that there was 50% off Hungarian Food and it was very good food with live music so we decided to give it a go. We had one main meal each the potatoes and vegetable were extra and two beers. The bill came to 9,700 Huf we have previously worked this out in our head taking into account the discount of 50% for the main meals to be 6,380 Huf. When we argued this, the manager just did not want to know and kept saying "well the drinks are expensive here and you did have some bread". We had to pay up and were abslutely disgusted that this is allowed to happen in such a beautiful city. It certainly made us wary during our stay in the city and we avoided this place from then on. On passing this restaurant a few times we saw quite a few customers arguing about the bill. By the way the live music was a man playing a violin who insisted in playing ths right in yoru face and then asking for money!!!

PLEASE AVOID AT ALL COSTS
