“Friendly and Cheap”

We have just returned from Pri Katrci, i must admit to being slightly
nervous about reviews of all night discos, but it did not happen, at least not the week i was there, This B & B was friendly, located just
outside the centre, but close to the bus stop, yes it has a 24 hour bar, i found the food good and in the rustic slovenian style, most of
the staff spoke very good english and were very helpful, even the one
or two who could not speak english went out of their way to help The room was basic but contained every thing we required and was clean
the morning we were leaving, they sorted out the taxi to the airport for me, wouldnt let me pay for coffee (we received quite a few free drinks throughout our stay) and they even gave us bottles of water to
drink on the way to the airport

“Quirky but good value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 June 2007

We spent 3 nights here at the beginning of June. I was a bit nervous having read the two bad reviews but was willing to give it a go- besides, there was nothing else at the budget end of the market at the time! When we found out we were above the bar, I asked for a move but the place was full. We needn't have worried, the helpful young man who showed us our room said that they had sorted the noise problem by using filters on the sound system and I only heard music one night faintly when I woke up at about 4am.

There was nothing wrong with the breakfast either- we had the eggs, ham and cheese which is a normal central European breakfast. Food in the restaurant was good with big portions at low prices.

The room was huge, the bed comfortable but don't expect luxury at these prices. The towels were all different colours, the blind broken
and the shower didn't stay pointing where you wanted it, but hey, who cares? Very friendly staff who made us feel welcome.

  • Liked — no fuss and warm welcome
  • Disliked — limited menu after 9pm

“Great little cozy place to stay!”

I stayed in Gostilna Pri Katrci just last week and had a lovely time.
The staff were extremely friendly & helpful and all the meals I had were great (in taste and value )! I thought the breakfast was just right in size and contents to start a busy day of walking around and discovering Ljubljana & the rest of Slovenia. The owner was a lovely lady and helped you with any information you had about Ljubljana.
As mentioned in some previous reviews, this is more a hostel/inn than a hotel, so you shouldn't expect a hotel like ambience. So if you are someone who can't live without their creature comforts and like to stay in big bland hotels with breakfast buffets, health spa's, over priced restaurants or a concierge desks etc, then this isn't the place for you. If you want somewhere cozy with lot's of atmosphere which is down to earth with no pretentions with a cozy and friendly bar and staff then stay here! I stayed in a single room which didn't have a TV, but if I couldn't sleep, I just read or went down to the pub and had a night cap & chatted with people, it's as simple as that. I didn't know about the taxi driver who would take you around. I will definately take up this service next itme I stay there. It's located in a really peaceful residential part of town and just minutes away form the forest where I had a lovely 4 hour walk on a beautiful Sunday morning & also minutes (on foot or bus) from the city centre. I already miss it & will definately go back!

  • Liked — The staff & the food.
  • Disliked — The lack of shower curtain which made the florr very wet.
  • Tips/Secrets — Don't get annoyed & just remember to relax & enjoy the laid back atmosphere as the service isn't the quickest (but they are very earnest and friendly).

“Fabulous Hostel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 April 2006

We had a fantastic time at Pri Katrci. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, the room was huge with tv and power shower, and the breakfasts were marvellous (eggs, chocolate crepes, orange juice, coffee, bread, cheese and ham - all included in the room price!) They even have their own driver who drove us all the way to Lake Bled, waited for us for 3 hours, and drove us back for little more than the price of a couple of train tickets.

Obviously being a 24 hour place there will be a bit of noise but it was by no means excessive and no worse than your average hotel in a town centre. If you're after a peaceful room, don't book yourself into a hostel that's open all night!

All in all this was exceptional value for money and we will definitely be going back on our return to Ljubljana. Thank you to all the staff for making our trip so great.

“Fantastic!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 April 2006

Having read the previous reviews, I was a bit sceptical about staying here, but I couldn't have been more wrong. Our room was fantastic - big, with en-suite bathroom, TV, and very comfy bed. It was above the bar, but in the three nights we stayed there, there was only one time that I was aware of the noise and that was after they started pumping dance music at 6am, but I was so knackered after walking around the incredibly pretty city and castle, that I went straight back to sleep!

As for the breakfast, we figured that one out. The waitress who speaks no English brings you scrambled eggs with ham / whatever on toast (which was delicious by the way). The waitress who does speak English will bring you bread, ham, cheese, gorgeous chocolate pancakes, or whatever you ask for if they have it. If you don't like scrambled eggs, I'd recommend using the language section of your guidebook to say 'no eggs please, just toast' or something. The coffee is really good too by the way.

The Owner of the Gostilna is brilliant - she speaks good English and will tell you anything you need to know about where to go and what to do. They have their own taxi driver who you can call at any time and is very 'enthusiastic'! We hired him for the day to go to Lake Bled and it was great. He dropped us off where and when we wanted and then picked us up again. He also knows a brilliant short-cut to the airport!

When I go back to Ljubljana, I'm definitely staying here again.
