“Fantastic situation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

This hotel has the perfect situation on the lake side looking directly acrosss to the castle. Front rooms shoould be requested as the back ones merely look onto trees across the road and therefore miss the fantastic view across the lake.

Facilities within the hotel are excellent and the staff are extremely helpfull. Their facilty to speak English was wonderful.

Overall an excellent place to stay.

“beautiful location and old fashioned grandeur”

We arrived on christmas eve after a long journey. We had requested a lake view room with a bath and also asked for a high floor .. We got the high floor but no bath so contacted reception. It was no trouble to the staff to relocate us to a much bigger and nicer room with a bath but on a lower floor .The views from our balcony were stunning ,the castle lit up at night and the island sometimes shrouded in early morning mist.
The buffet breakfast had a good choice of hot and cold food ,cereals, fresh fruit and champagne if you wanted it. Freshly prepared eggs etc could be ordered from the kitchen .There was complimentary coffee and cake at 4 o'clock and the evening 4 course meal was enjoyable with a choice of menu. There were no tea and coffee making facilities in the rooms and the t.v.s were the older style c.r.t. The beds had mattresses which could be adjusted in firmness and were comfortable. We did use the swimming pool once and would describe it as exhilarating. It is very cold but there are several saunas to warm up afterwards. Guests can also use the pools and water slide etc of the nearby Hotel Golf which would probably be more suitable for children. We have stayed in many 5 star hotels and would rate this one as 4 star in comparison. The outside appearance is a bit grim but the inside is pleasant and has lovely views from the lounge and bar areas. A real fire in the lounge area would really have made a difference to the overall atmosphere of the hotel especially when coming back from a walk around the lake or a day on the slopes .We enjoyed our stay here and in Bled in particular the low key family christmas activities we joined in with i.e.,seeing Santa and Father Frost ,the traditional dancing and music and the torghlight procession around the lake on Christmas Eve not to forget the mulled wine . All the hotel staff were very friendly and helpful .

Room Tip: If you aren't happy with your room ask for another as all the rooms appear to be different. Lake...

“Wonderful Experience”

This is one of our favorite spots in the world... Lake bled is truly a beautiful spot.
We stayed here several years ago & loved the whole experience. We took a walk around the lake everyday of our stay. The horse & carriage ride was a great addition to our trip. The hotel is very old, but the experience is devine. I'm not a breakfast person, but I truly enjoyed our breakfast here...A slice of heaven.

Room Tip: Lake views are a necessity.

“Wonderful Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

My husband and I stayed here over the Christmas period with a group from Great Rail Journeys. I cannot praise the Hotel and its staff highly enough. Many people have already commented on its location and views(lakeside) We have stayed at many 5 star hotels, Paradors and Relais and Chateau and would rate this the overall highest. Despite having to cater for a large group the food was wonderful with 5 and 6 very different courses at every meal plus the very extensive buffet breakfast. The staff were always pleasant and accomodating. We each had Christmas stockings on our bedroom door and champagne was served from breakfast onwards.Live musical entertainment was provided Christmas evening. My only small gripe was no bidet in our room but some did have and others did agree the pool was too cold

Room Tip: Must be lakeside with balcony

“Nice hotel but not 5 stars.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

We stayed in this hotel over Christmas and did enjoy our stay. The hotel is in a wonderful position right on the lake and the views across the lake from the balcony of our room were stunning. Staff were friendly and the buffet breakfast was nice enough but not 5 star quality. The only criticism we had is that the hotel is in desperate need of a renovation and for the price, does not represent value for money. We learned from a video in the castle that the hotel was completely renovated in the 1920's and it feels like it has not been touched since. The hotel has a wonderfully spacious tea room with floor to ceiling windows overlooking the lake. It would be an amazing place to while away the hours if it wasn't for the old uncomfortable furniture and rather cold atmosphere (a bit like your grandparents' "good room"!). The rooms have a similar feel. Ours had two single beds pushed together and no modern comforts such as Wi-Fi (there is Wi-Fi in the reception area only). Not what you would expect of a 5 star hotel. The spa centre was a little disappointing also. It's advertised as a thermal pool but the water is cold which is not what you want in December. At the end of the day, a very nice hotel but not 5 stars as it is currently priced and advertised. lIdeally we would have given it 3.5 stars which is a shame because the hotel has so much potential.

Room Tip: Definitely get a room with a lake view. Stunning.
