“Terrific value for money”

We felt very welcomed from the moment we walked in and we loved the 70’s, soviet era looks of this hotel.
Our room was spacious, clean, comfortable, with a full bathtub and an old fashion key – so much easier to find in your bag than the electronic cards that have become the norm.
If you need a last minute hair cut, there’s a hairdresser in the lobby. We haven’t tried it but we were tempted just to prolong our stay there because this hotel is very endearing thanks to its staff and the general atmosphere of a gone-by era.
We were the only customers at the restaurant and were pampered by the young waiter who served us delicious wholesome traditional Polish dishes. We must really commend the waiter for his enthusiasm for his work.
The buffet breakfast was excellent with a wide selection of traditional Polish breakfast fares such as gherkins and cucumber salad but if it's not your cup of tea there is also a great variety of pastries, bred, cereals, sausages etc.
We will remember this hotel as one of the highlights of our trip.

“Spacious and comfortable”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 August 2011

The hotel looks very forbidding - a typical communist era concrete skyscraper.
However, the hotel offers a good 3 star option with sensible prices.
Reception was friendly and efficient, and public areas have undergone a facelift. The decor of the single room was a bit dark, but there was a small entrance corridor, a spacious room with two big comfy armchairs and a grat view back to the town.
Everything worked fine. Breakfast was very good, with both hot and cold items, including some typically Polish dishes, and some really nice little cakes. The restaurant menu also looked pretty good if you wanted to stay home in the evening.
On the minus side, the t.v. had no Engish speaking channels ( available on request at the bar only ), and the bar was really just a part of the entrance to the restaurant.

The walk to the old market square is an easy 15 minutes or less, but without much of interest en route. When it is pouring with rain, this seems much longer....

If you want to be within easy striking distance of the old town at a sensible price, and are happy with the 70s retro style, then the Ikar provides a good value and comfortable base.

- close to city center
- very good breakfest (with fresh and crunchy pastry)
- quiet
- clean and big bathroom
- polite receptionists
- very weak wifi connection (most of the time not working)

I would stay in this hotel again.

“Excelent price and quality, perfect location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 June 2011

Hotel located just 10 min walk from old town. A bit noisy at day time street near, but if you prefer conditioning and closed windows - no problems. Bus and tram stops near.
Very clean rooms, just somewhere cosmetic repair needed. Hotel has restaurant and breakfast served in restaurant area. Tasty and wide selection of foods.
