“Great location, Love having breakfasts in the garden”

was at pension alabastr for 4 nights. clean, wifi and great location, about 10min walk from station mustek.
i was a single female traveler and felt safe walking back to the pension even late at night.
was staying at the ground floor and it opens to a little garden outside the room.

(the pension is actually very near a local cave-like pub, u sulu. check it out if you are there!)

“Had better expectations”

Plus:
- relatively good location, short walk to tram and metro stops and walking distance to town
- large room, with cooking facilities

Minus
- Cleaning was rushed at best
- Toilet had no proper door and ventilation and poor lighting
- Breakfast was served in the room, but there was not much option and the quality was questionable

“Cheap, cheerful and convenient”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 May 2011

This was my first time in Prague and my partners third. The Pension Alabastr was in a great location in regards to the cities bars and restaurants and was also really close to the metro line meaning it was really cheap and easy to get to the and from the airport for cheap.

They were very friendly on arrival and asked what time we would like breakfast brought to the room which consisted of either tea or coffee, glass of orange juicce, bread with jams, chease and meat, a yoghurt and fruit.

Although the Pension Alabastr isn't the most modern place to stay, there was a small kitchenette area with microwave and 2 hobs, fridge, iron and a safety deposit box.

The beds weren't the most comfortable with the pillow being a large cushion, but the sheets were clean.

The bathroom wasn't great - very small and dark with a shower and no bath but, it did the job so I can't complain.

If you're after a luxurious place to stay I would not even consider here, however, if you're looking for something cheap, cheerful and convenient then it's ideal.

“This pension is a gem indeed”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 September 2010

There is nothing quite like getting a wakeup call at your door, with a full-on European Continental breakfast waiting for you. Nice and quiet, friendly and helpful staff; an all-around great place for what I paid for it. The room was small but cozy and quaint. My only complaint was the bedding... you'd have to drink a lot of Czech pilsners to help you sleep on the beds and pillows.

“Excellent, helpful staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 April 2008

This pension is a gem. It is less than 100 yards from the tram stop, one stop from Wenceslas Square, and very quiet. I had difficulty sleeping the first night because of the icebox in my room, but once I turned it off, I slept like a log. (Room 2b).

This a pension, not a hotel. They provide shampoo and soap, as do many midprice European establishments, but bring conditioner if you have frizzy hair, as you can also use that as body lotion. You only get 2 towels, but I always bring a spare one. (If you order a double room used as a single, you get double towels).

There is a small fridge, a hot plate and a microwave, so you could eat lunch in your room if you wanted to buy it in from the supermarket. Breakfast is also served in your room, which is great if you are a woman travelling alone.

I am lactose intolerant, and the manager had organised soya milk for me and replaced the yogurt and cheese of the breakfast with fresh pineapple.

It was scrupulously clean, even the grouting on the shower, which is what I always look out for.

There is a night watchman who turns on the lights for you as you go up the stairs, so you aren't stranded on a dark landing, and in general, the standard of care was excellent.

The bed was comfortable, the shower worked, the location was totally quiet yet central, and the management was helpful. What more could you ask for?

  • Liked — The fact that there is a legal requirement for quiet after 10pm. I slept like a log.
  • Disliked — The absence of a lift, but that's a minor quibble.
