“Everything you read in the 5* reviews is absolutely true!”

We had not been to Prague before and found it a wonderful city to explore. However, it was The Alchymist which made this an exceptional holiday for us. Chandeliers, gold and candlelight throughout. Clearly no expense has been spared in decorating and maintaining this beautiful and unique hotel.
We arrived to glasses of sparkling wine for three days at the beginning of February. We were given the choice of two beautiful rooms and found it difficult to choose between them. The staff were quietly attentive and very well informed. For example, the restaurant recommendations we were given (both close to the hotel) were excellent: The Blue Duck behind the Mandarin hotel (up market) and Malostranska Bethseda (more Bistro). The hotel commands a prestige location opposite the American Embassy and yet is only a few minutes walk to the Charles Bridge. The breakfast buffet (including items cooked to order) was superb so we took our time, read the papers and absorbed the restaurant ambience. Unlike an earlier review, we found the coffee to be very good. Perhaps the hotel has responded to earlier comments?
The spa and treatment rooms in the cellars underneath the hotel have to be seen to be believed. Breathtakingly beautiful and luxuriously appointed. There was an invite to a cheese and wine reception every evening between 5-6pm. Two handmade chocolates left on the bed each night!
The Alcymist 'hotel experience' is truly very very special. Not sure it could be beaten in Prague or anywhere else for that matter.

“Lived up to expectations”

We stayed at the Alchymist in January for two nights and the hotel lived up to the high expectations we had. We are quite discerning travellers and fortunately used to stay in those places that do not tend to disappoint. The Alchymist is amongst them.
The staff was extremely friendly, keen to make our stay as pleasant and comfortable as possible. The restaurant for breakfast and dinner were superb and the bedroom was comfortable and quite. To keep a balance in this review I will mention that a shower door rather than a curtain would have been more appreciated, but that should not be a reflection on the quality of the hotel.
Totally over the top in decorations but it somehow works and is very stylish. The situation of the hotel is extremely convenient as well. Am very comfortable to recommend!

We can only write praises about this hotel and its staff. The staff is very professional and friendly, and always got out of their way to make us feel welcomed. We were actually very impressed by the way we were welcomed when we first arrived. The rooms are spacious, modern and clean and the location is great (within a 20-minute walk of all the main attractions in Prague). We also used the hotel's transportation service from and to the airport and recommend it too. The drivers were always on time and the cars were comfortable and clean. This hotel is a perfect choice for a great stay in Prague.

“A baroque jewel next to the castle”

We arrived on a very cold January day and were received with a glass of hot-spiced red wine that gave us a clear idea of the care we would receive in the hotel. We were not disappointed.
The first room we were showed was a charming one, under the roof, with slanted beams that turned out to be a little low for my tall husband. They immediately offered us a lovely suite with a four-poster bed. Everything was perfect (except for the reading lights--a usual problem in most hotels--but that was quickly fixed.) Wonderful breakfast!....The staff could not have been nicer.
We stayed 5 days and tried both the restaurant and the small pastry shop where I had a cup of truly memorable thick chocolate: one of the very best 5-star experiences we ever had!
Important advice: never take a cab except for the AAA cabs or else, negociate the price ahead of time.
Also, we reserved an airport transfer ahead of time at prague-airport-transfers.co/uk. Their prices are extremely reasonable and the service is perfect: our chauffeur waited for our plane which was an hour late, and the trip was only about $26 for 4 persons in a private car.

Room Tip: If the first room has a problem, don't hesitate to mention it. We could have been happy under th...

“Pure perfection!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

If you are reading this then you are probably doing your homework on the best place to stay in Prague - well congratulations, you have just found it! Don't waste your time looking for anywhere else - this is quite simply - perfection. We have just returned from a superb three night stay here and i can honestly say this must be one of the best hotel experiences of my life. From the moment we were collected at the airport by the hotel driver to the sincere farewells from the staff as we departed - this is how a hotel should be run. There are not enough superlatives to adequately describe the quality of this luxury boutique hotel. Its location near to Charles Bridge makes it the perfect choice for exploring both sides of the river and Prague is a city best explored on foot to fully appreciate its beauty. Its the little touches that set this hotel apart from the rest and all the staff, without exception were professional, exquisitely well trained and above all genuinely friendly and welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble, they arranged for chocolates and wine to be in the room on arrival for my girlfriends birthday and their help with making reservations for concerts and recommending restaurants were invaluable for getting the most out of a short break. Breakfast was a delight - high quality food and friendly service. We decided to eat out for dinner as there were so many places we wanted to sample across the bridge, but the dinner menu looked lovely and we will definitely eat in on our next visit. Don't miss the complimentary wine and cheese tasting every night between 5-6pm - a great way to start the evening and a chance to plan the night's activities in the opulent surroundings of the hotel lounges. We both had massages in the hotel's amazing Spa - and that was just sublime. Sauna first to warm up, 60 minutes of pure heaven with the Alchemist Massage (a combination of 3 massage styles i think) and then further relaxation in the pool area. The bedrooms were excellent and very well equipped, sumptuous bathrooms and every luxury you would expect for a hotel of this quality. The owner of this establishment should be very proud of his hotel and the amazing staff that ensure its smooth operation. Your trip to Prague will be wonderful experience and if you choose to stay at the Alchymist Grand Hotel and Spa - it will be truly memorable Life is short - just do it!!.
