We were a bit hesitant about booking the Villa Conti because of the lack of reviews. It LOOKED like a nice property, and the prices were much better than the other nice hotels in town, so we went for it.
I'm glad we did, because it was a true hidden gem. It was still one of the most expensive hotels of our trip--pricier than the big cities--but that's apparently what has happened since Krumlov was "discovered". The location made it pretty good value for money despite that price tag. Our room was in the annex, which is basically across the "street" (small cobblestone lane) from the hotel. Both the annex and the hotel are right in the center of Krumlov, steps from all the major attractions. It was a great home base for seeing the town.
The room itself was huge--by far the biggest room we had in 2 weeks in Europe. It was clear that in the building's original life it had been several rooms, which now have been made into a bar/sitting area and the bathroom (divided into a shower/sink in one room and a toilet/sink in the other). It was beautifully furnished, and the bed was quite comfortable.
Our only complaint is so minor it's barely worth a mention--the TV in the room only got 2 channels. Of course, watching TV in Europe was not a big priority--but Krumlov doesn't have a lot of night time activities, especially since we were there at the end of the season, so we were in our room a bit earlier in the evening.
Breakfast was a nice spread. We stayed mostly in B&Bs, so the atmosphere here was a bit more like a traditional hotel--buffet style food, individual tables, minimal (but good) service. We were offered cooked-to-order eggs one morning, but not the other. The hotel seemed equally busy both days, so I'm not sure what the difference was. The buffet had the typical central European spread--cheese, meat, yogurt, hard boiled eggs (they disappeared fast and weren't always refilled), bread, cereal.
Overall, if we returned to Cesky Krumlov we would stay here again. Of course, I think we saw most of what the town had to offer in our 2 days, so on our next trip to the area we will likely visit someplace new.
