Just returned from a week in the Hotel Salpi in El Arenal , Mallorca . The Salpi is a small Family run hotel with helpful friendly staff and is situated some 150 mtrs from the beautiful Playa Del Palma beach .
In our party were Myself , My Wife and our 8 year old Grandson .
We got off to a bad start being placed in room 109 on the ground floor at the back of the hotel . the room was just big enough for three single beds and had a very small bathroom , the bath being only about 4 feet long . The toilet had a smell of sewerage no matter how many times it was flushed . The Glass door led out on to a patio ? with a 40 foot high Orange wall facing you about 12 feet from the door . In a word it was terrible .
On the good side , after complaining to the man in reception , Maria the owner promptly moved us into room 12 with no argument at all . Room 12 was at the front of the hotel on the first floor and provided a sunny balcony overlooking the main street . The bathroom had a full size bath and the toilet was spotless . The cleaning staff were excellent , cleaning the bathroom and changing the towels on most days . All together a lot better experience !
The hotel seemed to cater mainly for German residents and this was reflected in the bufet breakfast which consisted of of Hard Boiled Eggs , Sliced Cheese , Various Sliced Sausage Meats and salad . The food provided was of very good quality and freshly prepared each day .
While we were there there was a lot of all boy or all girl groups but they were well behaved and there was no trouble at all .
Maria and her staff are a credit to this Hotel .
Finally if your are looking for a very basic one star B&B or HB hotel this could suit you , personally we like someting a bit better with more facilities .

i booked this holiday to hell with goldtrail travel, do not book with these!!! i told them i would be travelling with my 12 year old daughter and would they take this into account when allocating the properties, of course was goldtrails reply! liars! the place was a hostel for youngsters, i have nothing against this but for a mother and daughter, please!! the hotel, and i use this word loosely, had no lifts, at six in the morning and six flights of stairs to encounter not very good. the best was yet to come....we opened our door to find the worst room i had ever seen in the whole of my 26 years of travelling abroad!!! i have stayed in some shabby places but this!!!! i telephoned goldtrail and they didnt want to know....they had my money and i was on my own!!
everything was metal, the beds, the wardrobes???? i think it was a wardrobe, the door to the balcony all 2 foot of it with a splendid view of the back streets!!! a modern art painting of a squashed bug was on the wall, oh sorry it was a squashed bug just left there for effect!! the bathroom was stinking dirty. to top it all a man from next door leaned over his balcony and looked directly into our room!!! that was it we made our escape and had to pay anothe £300 to stay in palma nova in a lovely apartment, which took us all day in blazing heat to find. do not go to the salpi and definitely do not book with goldtrail travel!!!
