“A terrible experience involving 5 days lock down in our room with all three of our children getting gastro from the overcrowded,”

My husband, three children 7,5,4 and myself recently stayed in the most exclusive accommodation Beachlands has to offer...the Jaccuzi Bungulow, for one week. I am in shock at the number of positive reviews this caravan park receives as we found it very difficult to see any.

The owners have crammed as much accommodation in to the small park as possible...greedily trying to generate more reveniew at the detriment of facilities. There is no nice grassy patches to enjoy. The pillow, play ground and pool have no shade which makes them virtually unusable. The pool is no bigger that your average backyard pool yet it is expected to service hundreds of guests? I counted over 40 people in it on one of our visits. The water is so murky you can't see your hands. It is unhygienicly warm due to now shade...a breeding ground for bacteria and parasites.

I brought this to their attention out of concern and was told it was sunscreen-rubbish! If this was so why are most pools clear when all contain swimmers wearing sunscreen? The pool was the cause of all three of our children and myself contracting gastro. We had to seek medical attention and was advised by the doctor to not return to the pool as it was obviously to source. We had not been in contact with any public or outside meals during this time.

We soon discovered we were not alone. There were four other children sick outside their tents holding buckets. One parent told us they used to get sick on previous visits but now don't allow their children to use the pool and haven't had the problem since.

The bungalow appeared clean on first entry but after having to thoroughly clean with disinfectant in an effort to relieve ourselves of gastro this proved otherwise. When wiping the couches I was shocked to see the cloth black with dirt and grime.

Total cost of holiday? Over $2 700 for a week. Could have stayed in real luxury for that and got to enjoy it instead of holding a bucket for most of it. Do your self a favour, stay home and healthy. Give this one a miss.

We are sorry to hear these guests were unwell on their holiday and did not enjoy their stay at Beachlands as a result of being sick. With reference to the pool being murky, this was in fact due to the excessive amount of sunscreen being washed off in the pool, by a large number of guests, over a few very hot days. The City of Busselton regulations require accommodation providers test their water quality once a day, ours is tested twice a day and has at all times complied with regulations. Please rest assured we take great pride in the cleanliness of our park, in both accommodation and facilities, and are renowned for our extraordinarily high standards.

“Hidden Gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

We actually tried to book into nearby Mandalay, but couldn't get in. In hindsight, what a relief - Mandalay was too big and crowded. Beachlands is compact and more initimate with less pressure of facilities. Very quiet at night; friendly staff and a beautiful walk to the beach. Busselton boasts the best cycle ways in Australia. Be sure to take your bikes - the coastal trail is only 15 minutes from the Busselton Jetty.

We will definetly return to Beachlands. The grounds are flat and the lawn is very well kept and manicured.

“Overpriced revolting swimming pool”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

We stayed in a deluxe chalet at 260 a night. Kitchen equipment was basic knives so blunt couldn't even cut a tomato. The swimming pool was so murky all the time you could never see the bottom. The kids got funny tummies after each swim so we just stopped using it. If you went here with other couples you would be better off renting a house.
For $260 a night they expect you to clean your own house otherwise you can be charged a cleaning levy. The park itself was neat and tidy. Overall it is overpriced and over rated.

Beachlands is sorry to hear these guests did not enjoy their stay with us. We were unaware of any problems with the unit, if we’d been informed of any issues they would have been rectified immediately. With reference to the pool being murky, this was due to the excessive amount of sunscreen being washed off in the pool over a few very hot days. Shire regulations require water quality be tested once a day, ours is tested twice a day, has complied at all times with regulations and was clear again within a few days. Guests are not expected to clean their own chalets, we simply ask that they are left in a reasonable state, i.e. dishes washed and floors swept.
