There are several impression review written on the Royal Mail hotel - which I felt it was slightly overrated.
It is well maintained building which tried to retain its rustic charm. However because of the high expectation, I felt it was a bit letdown. The shower due to its design tend to overrun to its adjusting area which make the bathroom extremely wet. The bed was not as comfortable as I would expected from its review.
Food wise, we tried to degustation menu - generally the foods were fresh and from the local products. However, because of the raving review from most Australian food critic as well as internet review, we were disappointed. From the whole time we tried the foods, there was only one type of bread which offer - sour bread which I found it's very surprising because of its heavier taste of sour bread, it kinda of overpower the dishes served. Also, from its degustation menu, there is no tea or coffee offer as part of the menu as one would expected - at the end we have paid separately for the 2 teas. If there are so many praises of its foods, it should provided a journey of tasting experience (which certain Japanese and French cuisines have prefect to its highest level) which I don't get it from the Royal Mail dinner experience.
In term of location, it is very good to drive to nearby mountains area for all type of walkers. So, it is a good pit stop for travellers - but unfortunately, it didn't need the raving reviews as one would have hope.

I'm sorry your expectations were not met. The shower head in the bathroom is what is suggested to be used to be waterwise. I hope that your whole Port Fairy experience made up for any short comings of the Barn.
