“one of the best Hostels in Australia”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 August 2011

A very sparklingly clean and eco friendly hostel, with super comfy beds and lots of space in the rooms. Very freindly staff, nice communal areas. Nice vibe for a solo traveller and easy to meet others.

The only thing they could of done with was somewhere to lock up my bicycle, but then I imagine not many people cycle the great ocean road.

Room Tip: they're all good

G'day! Firstly, thanks for your beaut review. As a 'Mum and Dad' (or, 'Mom and Dad', for those from the US!) style hostel - where everyone you meet working in our place has an immediate and direct family link to the hostel - we really appreciate getting feedback like this. This place is kind'a like our home (in fact, we live on premises, so it IS our home), so we're pleased you found it in the condition you did.

Onto your comment about locking up your bike... we probably host maybe 3, or 4, cyclists every week (sometimes in groups of 2 or 3 people, but more often on their own). Most cyclists are happy to up their bikes onto the wooden frame directly inside our lobby. Not only does that lock the bikes in-situ, that area is protected by 24/7 CCTV coverage. (So, issues like 'theft' of gear from the bikes has not, so far, been an issue at all). Failing that, we've locked plenty of cyclists bikes out-of-site (hence, out-of-mind) into one of our storerooms. I simply can't think of any good reason why we didn't do that, in your case.

“cleanest and newest hostel in australia”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 August 2011

this hostel is so clean U could actually eat of the floor 
the rooms are pretty big, they have eco friendly toilets, which are a great idea! the showers are good and the kitchen is perfect! very clean, everything looks brand new and get free coffee and tea. it's a really nice place! unfortunately the reception is only open until 10 in the morning and in the evening again from 5 pm which i a little inconvenient. but i stayed there during off season so this might be diffrent during summer

Thank you for the review! Not really sure I can add anything to it - you have hit all the highlights!

(And, you are spot on about our summer time hours - we run our reception a lot longer than in the depths of winter time. We normally remain either at the reception area, or lurking somewhere around the hostel until around 9.30pm-10.00pm over summer, depending on the needs of the crowd in the hostel, on any given night).

Finally, we hope you had an enjoyable time down in this neck of the woods, and an enjoyable and safe journey around Aussie.

Cheers

“clean and basic equiped”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 April 2011

Port Campbell hostel located in the one of the hottest spot along the great ocean road. So everything is expensive.
No breakfast, even no table in the room, just a double bed, only for your basic needs.
The suit equipment is clean and new.

G'day there TA reviewer. "Clean and basically equipped" kind'a sums up exactly what our hostel is all about... (in fact, based on the reviews and rankings drawn from "the world's number 1 hostel booking site" (and I won't mention the name of that site here, but I suspect you will be able to guess which site I mean), we consistently attract ratings that allow me to say we are rated as either rated as THE cleanest hostel in Australia AND New Zealand, or rank consistently in the top three hostels across those two countries!

We don't provide breakfast, and provide only the basic amenities with your accommodation that is very, very consistent with our budget prices. (Erm... you knew we are a hostel, right?) We are not a motel, and certainly NOT a bed-and-breakfast. If you had chosen to stay in a B-'n-B, or a motel anywhere along the Great Ocean Road - and required the sorts of additions (e.g. a breakfast) that you may have been wanting - I strongly suspect you would have been asked to pay at least (and I will repeat "at least") twice the tarriff we charged you. Remember, we are a budget provider of beds in a hostel that (like all other hostels) needs our guests to act with a degree of self-sufficiency and behave in a manner that enhances the communal living associated with hostels. For things like breakfast, it is all part of the usual hostel experience for our guests to prepare and fetch their own breakfast! We have an excellently equipped kitchen - it is up to you to make use of that.

While the basic experience we provide is excellent - and everyone who stays in our dorms raves about them! - we do not try to provide the sorts of things that motels, self-contained-apartments and other more 'up-market' accommodators do cater (and, charge) for. After all, we cater entirely to and for the independent backpacker market - and they most certainly do NOT want to be paying extra money for the trimmings associated with more upper-market accommodation, when all they normally want is a very clean bed, in excellent surrounds, with the chance to meet other like-minded travellers.

And that is the experience we provide... in spades!

“Clean and New”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 December 2010

We stayed here in early Nov while doing the GOR. Decided that we must see the 12 Apostles at sunset (gorgeous and not crowded if you hang around a little longer) so Port Campbell was the place we wanted to stay at.

We found the place to be new, very clean and professionally managed. The common areas are all on the ground floor - TV area and a VERY large kitchen where you can cook breakfast if you purchased groceries beforehand.

Our room was a private double which had a double mattress and another single mattress in it. It was very basic as it didn't even have hooks/shelves - something the owners can consider - so we put all our stuff on the single mattress. Room access is via a proximity card. Showers and toilets are on the 1st floor and you need to bathe before 10.30pm as hot water is turned off after to discourage noisy late night bathing.

Overall, I think its a great place to stay when touring GOR. Fantastic value.

Stayed with my family a few months ago .I am familiar with the area through my work
as a tour guide/driver.Nevertheless manager Tony gave me some helpful info and advice
and made me and my family feel most comfortable.
Another asset were the relatively new and comfortable mattresses which gave me a great nights sleep~! Cant say the same for the more expensive hostel I stayed at in the Grampians the next night! Anyway I hope they can keep the good work up!
