We were looking for a B&B and Lorne B&B and self contained owners were a bit greedy, no-one wanted to accommodate us for just one night. We were advised to contact Lorne Visitior Centre on the day. With a 4 year old daughter I was a little worried but thought we would find something. We were getting into Apollo Bay just before 5 pm so we called the visitor center there, really nice helpful lady put us onto Lorne visitor centre who were not so helpful but gave us two motel numbers. We tried this one and Terrry could not have been more helpful, great guy, gave us tips on where to see wild koalas (and we saw loads of them) fed cockies and kookaburras on site and was really helpful about getting to them, times and all sorts of advice and tips. His wife was just as welcoming when we arrived, very hospitable.
The accommodation itself is exactly what you would expect of a motel but clean, quiet, extra bedding all supplied and ready to slip into for our daughter, big rooms, tv (not that we used it), kitchenette decently stocked.
The motel is at the east end of town (next door to a supermarket and camp site) and there is about a 1km walk to the other end, all very pleasant. We ate at the exact opposite end of town in the Lorne Hotel, very nice and good value, good for kids. There are plenty of alternatives though, pizza place, noodle bar and others along the strip. Lorne is a nice stopover before Melbourne on the Great Ocean Rd (we had travelled from Adelaide to Mount Gambier the night before). Apollo Bay looked equally nice though.
We were on the second floor and we had to bring two suitcases up the stairs but it was not a big deal. In general it was a pretty good experience and we had not stayed at any other motels.
