we went and saw the penguin parade and afterwards we had no accomodation booked and no where to stay so we went around phillip island looking for somewhere to bunk for the night. we found tropicana driving around and we had tried many other places but all the receptions were closed and no one answering the door since it was 10.30pm.
we thought we'd try tropicana hoping someone would answer and they did. there was an after hours phone and they were nice enough to come down and give us a room. i price was ok for the island and family room and time of night. the room was clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful since we were asking them about tour for the next day and it was so late at night he was still willing to help out.
thank goodness they let us stay because we didnt know what to do next. thank you tropicana u were life savers.

Stayed at Tropicana for 3 nights (SPA room). To be honest it is a regular motor inn and I am a bit surprised why it gets so much thumbs up from other reviewers. The place is quite close to the center (walking distance to Coles and other shops and eateries). The room was of a standard size. We had to rent a microwave (which came free at all other places we stayed while in Australia). What was very annoying is that the room has only energy-saving lamps and therefore at night the lighting is not comfortable for the eyes (well, it is a personal judgment). The swimming pool can be more described as a small landscape pond (due to cool weather we never used it).
Not to be too pessimistic I should praise the owners for being very friendly and helping us to make our stay enjoyable !
So, a fair, good place but do not expect too much !
 

Enjoyed our stay in a comfortable and large room. Very close to shops and the beach and nice and quiet in the evenings.

Comfortable, large rooms close to beach and shops but in a reasonably quiet area. Nice, but small, pool area. Courtyard area a bit drab. Hot water a bit sporadic. Staff very friendly. Overpriced for what it is although we were staying over NYE so everywhere is probably like that.
