“Tranquility base... the eagle has landed”

Do you want to go away from it all, to where you can see this wonderful land as it once was. In the care of Sean and Rosemary at their thoughfully constructed lodge we got to enjoy the beautiful Jackeys Marsh valley while sharing the company and hospitality of folk who have been pivotal in saving this pristine part of the world. At the same time we were spoiled with Sean's locally resourced menus and carefully chosen Tassie wines to wash it all down with while watching the sun set on the valley. Go for a guided walk where few others do or just read a book and listen to the sounds of nature. Stare out of the triple glazed windows while the weather does its thing. Do yourself a favour - just go.

“Genuine Eco-Lodge - Amazing Food”

We had a lovely stay at the lodge; complete with wonderful home-cooked meals along with local beer and wine. The lodge has genuinely been constructed with both the local and global environmental impact carefully considered, we were especially intrigued to find triple glazed windows in Australia! Great local walks accessible daily. We were happy to support a couple who have a great history of environmental conservation, enhancement and activism - plus great community spirit. Wishing the lodge all the best in the future; we'd return if we find ourselves in Tasmania again.

“Awesome base for exploring Northern Tasmania & Cradle Mountain”

Stayed here with my girlfriend in late August 2011 and was absolutely delighted by this great little place.

It is an eco lodge and runs competely self-sufficiently. It is in a very nice setting, deep in the forest and ideal for bush walks.

The absolute highlight, however, is the hospitality of Rosemary and Sean. We loved how they prepared meals for us and how they gave us tips for exploring the region. We were the only people staying there at the time, and they discussed the meal options with us. It was like having our own private chef!

The meals were delicous - Sean is a great chef and he likes to use local ingredients as much as possible. The greatest thing was when he served the lamb and pointed across the paddock, saying: "That's were it came from!". I love this stuff - so Tassie!

Give this place a try, and book the dinner option as well - you won't be disappointed!

“Beautiful ecolodge, friendly hosts, beautiful setting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 October 2011

We spent two great days at Forest Walks Lodge. The setting is gorgeous in a tranquil valley with fantastic views. The lodge runs on renewable energy, including hydro which is really fascinating. Rosemary and Sean are wonderful hosts, generous in time, attention and information and also providers of delicious meals made with tasty local produce. We walked from near the lodge into the hills and were rewarded with fantastic views. Would definitely recommend for the nature-oriented, environmentally aware visitor who is looking for a very comfortable place to stay.

“Peaceful and welcoming”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2011

Thank you Rosemary and Sean for your abundant and intelligent hospitality. Despite not taking any walks from the property, mum and I thoroughly enjoyed using the Lodge as a base for four days...to explore at will... from Cradle Mountain to Sheffield, Mole Creek, Deloraine, the Liffey Falls and all the beautiful back roads in between. Coming 'home' to a wood fire, a delicious meal and a brilliant night sky was a treat.
