Recently stayed at this motel and was devastated to see how it has been run down over the years. The magnificent location was the saving grace. The original entrance to the motel is deplorable and needs tidying up. The cafe has a nice location but the staff could be more professional and welcoming. The rooms were clean - the outside table and chairs could do with some maintenance. The original pool area is run-down - surely it would not take much to provide a few plants and a paint job to make the area more amenable. It seems the owner is just letting the motel run-down - very disappointed to see what was once a lovely motel in such a state.

This motel has the most wonderful location.It's quite sad to see how run down the motel is though as its potential as unique beach side accommodation is neglected.The entrance to the motel is unforgivable with ugly delapidated building,broken windows and entrance stuffed with boxes in the bargain basement shop which is a strange addition.The White Dog Cafe is in a brilliant location and lovely for coffee and breakfast.However throw away the twenty year old sofa beds,the glass table and chairs, and put some comfortable seating in its place.Fix up the tatty window frames on the outside and tart up the outdoor table and chairs.It requires little but would enhance what could be a really exceptional beach side motel.It need not be pretentious but kept within a beach side theme.The service is pretty amateurish although I am sure they are well meaning, but poorly trained in customer service.This would put off many people not used to this sort of "rustic" environment.

We stayed 3 nights during December and had a great time. At first glance the hotel appears a little tired but the room we stayed in had been renovated and was fine. The cafe had good breakfasts and was licenced, which for us was a bonus as sunsets on the deck with a glass of Tassie wine were a must. I also have to mention Cyranos french restaurant which is a short walk from the hotel. The rack of lamb would be one of the best I have ever tasted - anywhere! and I have had a few!

Having read other's reviews I was not looking forward to the planned night at Silver Sands. I was however sooooo pleasantly surprised. The shaby rear entrance to our room was in keeping with expectation but upon stepping into the room, it was pretty much imaculate. All aspects clean, all soft furnishings fresh, beds comfortable, self catering more generous than many motels and of course the location unbeatable. And yes, the woman managing the place is a little gruff but fundamentally good hearted. Maybe there are other rooms of lesser standard but the two we had I could not fault.
