“Nice views, but that's about it!”

My husband & I stayed here for one night, one night too many. When we checked in, the guy behind the reception desk was more interested in getting us to spend money in the restaurant for dinner and breakfast the next day. There was no mention that our room included a full breakfast! The room was good, plenty of room and the views were very nice. Unfortunately the bathroom was very small and to my horror "a shower curtain"! Of all the motels were stayed in on our week long trip, this was the only room that had a shower curtain. I haven't seen one of them for years and thought they were well & truly outdated. As for privacy, well there was none! We had kids from the rooms either side of us looking in through the window all afternoon until I closed the curtain which also closed the view. We could also hear talking in the room next to us and when we went to bed I could hear snoring all through the night. We had dinner in the restaurant which was quite nice but a little over priced for home cooking. We eventually got our "free full breakfast" the next day after the owner made well & truly sure we weren't ripping him off. Breakfast was disappointing, ordered fried eggs & bacon - got two eggs, one slice of toast, two tiny strips of bacon & a 1/4 wedge of tomato! I've had better! I found the staff were more interested in getting as much of our money as possible than making sure we had an enjoyable stay.

“Great location, relaxing seaviews, but expensive for this time of the year”

Excellent seaview from the room or balcony, across Nepean Bay. Staff were helpful and keen to make the 2 night stay pleasant. A change of ownership had occurred the day we arrived so the restaurant was not available for an evening meal but they provided a list of alternative locations. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. When making the booking over the internet some of the room options were “sold out” so we had to upgrade to a more expensive option which was disappointing for this time of the year. Interesting that there were only a few guests in total staying at the Lodge? Despite the “sold out” info on the website??
Kangaroo is a wonderful, almost unspoilt location and certainly worth a visit, but check options before you get stung.

“Quaint and comfortable.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 October 2009

The staff is very friendly... more like mom & pop than hotel staff. The food and wine was decent and the room was comfortable. We stayed for two nights during the summer and enjoyed ourselves. Our tour bus picked us up directly from the hotel - so I didn't get to see much of the surrounding area.

Overall - I would recommend this place to stay. It's nothing fancy at all, but comfortable and clean. The decor is terribly out-dated and everything pretty average. Nothing bad to say at all.

“Great view of the ocean - in dire need of remodel”

My husband and I stayed here for one night to be near the penquins/seagulls and airport for an early morning flight off the island. The bed in our room was so old and worn that you could literally see the grooves from years of people sleeping in it. You could also feel the springs in the mattress. The room itself had old outdated furniture and coverings. The sheets were paper thin. The bathroom is small and odd that my husband and I opted to skip a shower in the morning and wait until we arrived at our next hotel in Melbourne. It was close to the center of town, however there are other hotels in the center of town that looked nicer. It did have a great view of the water. The walls are of brick so it does make lack of noise a plus. The restraurant was closed while we were there and it looked like they were just getting the pool opened for the season.

“Large room, nice location, good condition”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 April 2009

Our family was pleasantly pleased when we went in to the room. It was much larger than I thought it might be, and it was comfortable (though we can't say how comfortable for a long stay... we were there one night). The hotel is not far from "downtown" Kingscote, though probably a bit far for a typical person to walk to get something to eat. It is just across the road from the water, so you can go for a walk along the beach (and even see some Penguins in their boroughs). On the downside, there was not much to breakfast (very typical: cereal, canned fruit). Staff, both the person checking us in in the evening and the manager the next morngin were plenty friendly and helpful.
