We joined the 2nd of the 2 trips that take place each night, by which time most of the penguins had reached their chosen place in the rocks to sleep. When I went on a similar tour in Tasmania we actually saw them coming up from the sea, which I think was better - don't know whether this would have been the case on the earlier trip. The red torch the guide used to prevent hurting the penguins eyes made all the photos look strange, but we were venturing into their world so it was only right that we played by their rules. It was a voyage of discovery - a feeling of success each time we found one of the cute little creatures settling down for the night. It was very cold, but very worthwhile.
