“Clean, comfortable - does the job nicely”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2011

Room was clean, comfortable. There's a restaurant on-site but I went into town for dinner. There is a swimming pool onsite - and as fas as I could see looked like it had water in it but I wasn't up for a swim. Reception was very friendly and welcoming. Older kind of building but they do a good job maintaining it. I would stay here again if my travels take me back to Ceduna.

Room Tip: If you're tall watch your head walking into bathroom. My room has very high ceiling in bathroom...

“No swimming pool and the man at the front desk was rude”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 April 2010

I went to Ceduna on business with my Dad. I narrowed down where we were staying to two places, here or the Shelley Beach Caravan Park. At the caravan park we would have had a two bedroom ensuite cottage for the same amount as we paid for a single standard room in this motel but Dad wanted to stay at this motel because of the swimming pool which was advertised on the website. My Dad is a keen swimmer and goes swimming at least once a day (usually through winter as well). When we got to the hotel Dad enquired about the swimming pool with the man at the counter (think it was the owner) and was told that there was no water in it and they would never have a swimming pool again. The man at the counter was quite rude about the whole thing and said that noone would go to Ceduna expecting to swim in March (even though it was like 39 degrees that day) and that Dad was mad for considering it. He kept saying to my Dad "Are we going to get in an argument" and Dad was like "I'm not arguing with you but on your website it says you've got a pool". The man said that he had told the website operators to take that they had a swimming pool off the website about 6 months ago but we only booked about 2 weeks before we went and it was still on there. The man offered to give us our money back but we were worried we wouldn't be able to find anywhere else to stay so decided to stay there anyway. Later in the day I got a phone message left on my mobile from the man at the counter saying that he wouldn't give us our money back and that they don't advertise a pool and they don't have a pool. I thought this was just immature as we'd already said we didn't want our money back. Obviously he felt like he didn't say enough on the subject when we were at the counter. I have looked again on the official website and they no longer have information about a swimming pool (he probably took it off the same day Dad raised it with him) but the swimming pool information is still on other websites, like wotif. Talk about false advertising!

Another thing that was dodgy with this hotel was that there was a big dead bug in our room (looked like a cockroach but was massive!) and although we stayed at this motel for 4 nights, it was never removed, although cleaners came to the room everyday. And trust me, this thing was not hard to miss! It was between the hand basin area and the room (it's open plan so wasn't like it was stuck in a doorway or anything, but in plain sight).

There weren't many people staying there when we were there. Maybe word has already gotten out that this is not the best option when staying in Ceduna.

Good points about this motel? The location wasn't bad, it was easy to find and although the rooms need an upgrade, they were ok for the price.

“Friendly and clean”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2010

We did not have a reservation but it wasn't a problem. At check in, the owner, after discovering we were Italian, offered us real panettone from Italy (that he must have paid a fortune) and gave us plenty of tips to cross the Nullarbor the day after. The room was excellent: it was the one next to the pool and we had it for 110 AUD, good value. It had just been renovated and was very clean. Definitely a place I'd stay again!

“Decent Stop-Over Motel -”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 November 2006

If you're taking the long journey across the southern end of the country, the East West Motel is a very decent spot to relax for the night. It's the cheapest of the local motel options, and the rooms are clean and the showers work well (a rarety on that trip...trust me!). The staff is very nice, but be prepared for a bit of a chat session with the lovely man at the front desk. ;) The food in the ajoining restaurant is decent, but quite pricey. If you're willing to drive down the road a bit, there's a cheap pizza place that's pretty nice. All in all, I'd defintely recommend staying here along the journey. It's the nicest place you'll encounter on the entire journey until you hit whatever larger city you're heading to!

  • Liked — Clean and cheap.
  • Disliked — Nothing to do in the area.
