Have just returned from a 10 day holiday at Osprey Apartments. For our family of 6 we rented the three bedroom penthouse and hired a rollout bed for the extra child, as the configuration was one king, one queen and two singles; this saved any fighting over who was going to share the queen bed. There is also the option of a three bedroom apartment which is all on one level and has two sets of twin beds, which would avoid the need for the rollout bed at extra cost of $30/night. We chose the penthouse option because of the extra living space, which included two floors with separate living areas and televisions and the rooftop which included plenty of shaded areas, tables and chairs, a couple of lounges, a good barbecue, fridge, it's own sink and a small amount of cutlery, which saved running up and down stairs to the kitchen all the time.
The main bedroom with huge ensuite and walk-in wardrobe is located on the first level. The other two bedrooms are on the second level. There is also a study area on the second level which was just the right size for the rollout bed.
On first entering the apartment we were a little taken aback at the lino flooring on the entire ground floor (with the exception of bathrooms and laundry which are tiled) but we assume this is because of the sand and grit that may be brought in on peoples' feet. The second floor is carpeted. We did get used to the feel of the lino underfoot and it was definitely easier to keep clean. The apartment is well equipped with everything needed for a comfortable stay. It also has its own spa on the second floor balcony. The best part was the spaciousness and the great living areas, the best we've had anywhere we've stayed. The lounges were super comfortable and plenty of room for our family to spread out and relax. (Several years ago we stayed in one of the two bedroom apartments, which was also very spacious with two separate living areas.)
The apartment we stayed in this time was in the middle of the building so, because of the building's design, it was set further back from the ocean but still had good ocean views, particularly from the rooftop. There are also good views at the back of the apartments which generally run front to back. There is some road noise from the local hoons at the front but, as the bedrooms are at the back, this didn't bother us.
Ebony, Sue and Dave were a pleasure to deal with and attended to any small problems promptly. The grounds are beautifully maintained with lovely gardens.
The gym is very well equipped with a bike, treadmill, various weight machines, a TV and air conditioner, however, much nicer to get up early and follow everybody else walking and jogging to the end of the Mooloolaba breakwater and then stop for a coffee or breakfast on the way back to the apartment for a shower.
Osprey is located near the headland of the Mooloolaba Esplanade, about 300-400 mts from the main shopping hub and patrolled beach. Now that our children are older it's not far but when they were smaller I did prefer to stay in an apartment closer to the beach because of all the stuff you tend to lug to the beach when children are little.
Mooloolaba is a lovely place to stay; there are heaps of cafes and restaurants and a good beach with several patrolled areas. Much quieter than the Gold Coast and, in my opinion, nicer than Maroochydore. We couldn't have been happier and Osprey represented excellent value for money. We will definitely be booking the same apartment again.
