“Friendly staff, Tasty food with some artistic and creative touches”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

We stayed in the area only one night and were glad we found this restaurant. We enjoy good beer mixed with creative hearty food and that is what they delivered. There was some creativity to the dishes but the portions were not dainty. There is a bar downstairs where we started with drinks thinking we were going to have to wait but were quickly accomodated with a table upstairs.
The decor is tasteful and feels historic but not dowdy.

Upstairs brassierie is a comfortable and good place to eat. Good choices. Service inconsistent like all over Oz.

“Decent food and average service in the old bank building”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2012

We tried out both the brasserie and the bar during our visit there. Surprisingly nice setup upstairs, and we had high expectations based on reviews from both here and Urbanspoon.

The Beef and Guinness pie was nicely presented, but nothing special in taste. The Chicken with cous cous was more special. Maybe a bit too sour, bit I found the taste combination quite good. Both dishes around AUS 20.

Dish 1 Beef and Guinness Pie with mushy peas and a mixed leaf salad
Dish 2 Tajine of chicken w/ green olives, dates & spiced cous cous

The service was only average, we almost left actually because it took so long before they came over to the table. And not much smiling on any of them there.

“FANTASTIC!!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2012

Had a fantastic meal at this lovely restaurant, it was one of the highlights of our trip and so good that we returned the next night as well! We can highly recommend the beef pie and the puddings were delicious too. Service was excellent, something that we did not experience in many restaurants, and it was excellent value for money too. Well worth a visit if you are nearby.

“Very average meal”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 December 2011

My wife and I dined here on a Sunday evening a couple of weeks ago after reading pretty good reviews on Trip Advisor. Unfortunately we were very disappointed. The menu is quite limited and the service was not very friendly. I ordered a pork cutlet which was nothing special and quite a small serve. My wife ordered a steak, as nothing else appealed, and ordered it to be cooked medium. The meals came and the steak had quite a lot of blood running out, my wife mentioned this to a waitress who took it back to the kitchen. We could see that the chef/cook was not at all happy but put it back on the hotplate for a couple of minutes. When it returned it still had blood coming from it. My wife ate some but we couldn't be bothered complaining again. Maybe she should have ordered it well done!!Anyway, we wouldn't recommend the Old City Bank Brasserie.
