“An artistic delight”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

If you like art and quality accommodation, this is the place to stay. The room was beautifully decorated with paintings, pottery, sculpture and glassware from the owners' private collection. Importantly, the place had a touch of class whilst retaining a welcoming warmth.
Watch the parrots feed outside the window while having breakfast and chat to the hosts over a quality cup of coffee. At nighty you can soak in a claw bath after a long walk through the spectacular Blue Mountains National Park. Nothing was too much trouble for the hosts. We plan to be back!

Thank you for your wonderful review. It is great to know guests have enjoyed staying with us, and have enjoyed our art collection. It is like living in an art gallery! You were a pleasure to take care of.

“Fantastic, couldn't wish for anything better”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

We stayed in Chalet for three nights and really enjoyed the atmosphere and hospitality. Net curtains on the window, the smell of old books and the rain knocking on the roof brought nostalgic memories of childhood, the warmth and heartiness of granny's house in the countryside but with the amenities of the 21st century. Each morning we had the pleasure of the Davids' company at breakfast and it was such a nice touch, made us feel the part of the community! The information and help the Davids provided us with regards to walks, fauna and local amenities was invaluable. The guys also run an art school and the house is full of paintings that add to the atmosphere. The area around the house is very tranquil, and good for runners.
Continental breakfast had all we were looking for.

“Summer Art School, The Chalet Guesthouse & Studio”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

For this art-lover, it was a fabulous week filled with so many wonderful memories!
Upon arrival, my hosts were attentive and charming, welcoming me into the superbly decorated guesthouse, which was built in 1897.
On a cold, rainy week, the warm fire burning in the beautiful dining room was so inviting. The vast and impressive art collection throughout the guesthouse kept me busy in between the drawing lessons. Our teacher, an accomplished artist in his own right, was so knowledgable and generous in his teaching, I feel my drawing skills have greatly improved as a result of having David's expert tutoring for the 5 whole days. His patience and persistence were invaluable to me and upon returning home, I've even planned to frame one of the works I completed under his guidance.
Each break between classes was most welcomed as our hosts kept our energy levels up with the most delicious food and fantastic coffee! The other students and I were looked after so very well.
My room was beautifully decorated, comfortably heated and roomy, yet still retained that cosy mountains allure. My bed was extremely comfortable, so much so that only the thought of the beautifully laid out yummy continental breakfast (and those great flat whites!) and the anticipation of a great day of art-making could make me leave it's warmth each morning.
Having to leave at the end of was the only low point...but I'm planning another trip to The Chalet soon!
Absolute bliss!

“The Chalet- Summer Art School”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

What an amazing week ! Spoilt with amazing food to keep our artist juices flowing the end of 5 day course left us tired but very happy. As a relative beginner drawing still comes hard to me but I felt I had really achieved something by the end of the week, as had everyone there. It was an amazing feeling to eventually "get it' after numerous repetition by a very patient David. It may all sound very serious but although we were all there to learn there was alot of laughs and lots of fun as well.
The Chalet is a lovely Guesthouse and the Davids both gracious hosts, both ready to assist in making your stay as pleasant as possible. Most importantly they make a great coffee! Lovely rooms are filled with amazing artwork from both David and their private collection. If you,re an art lover make sure you take time to look at beautiful works.

Hi Jay. Thank you for the great review. It is great to get feedback on the art classes since we will be continuing to schedule these each year. It is also nice to finally open the studio up to clients. David Middlebrook lives for art, with a passion for his own practice, his students at the University of Newcastle, and now at The Chalet. Thank you for being part of our first Art School here at The Chalet.
Cheers

“Great for peace and quiet”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

My wife visited the Chalet for our first anniversary and recently went back for our sixth, though this time heavily pregnant.

The Chalet is famous for its food and the Davids are great hosts. The artwork and late 1800s/early 1900s decor make for an ideal retreat for couple seeking peace and quiet.

Not really sure if I'd want to go with little Miss in future, I'd feel bad for the other guests!

Medlow Bath is a lovely spot close to lots of spectacular lookouts - we spotted a rare Lyre Bird at the nearby Evans Lookout, putting together a nest alongside the car park.

It's also just a few minutes to Katoomba in the other direction, with lots of food, drink, scenery and entertainment options.
