From the moment you arrive you will know that this is a different experience. This is not a hotel or a guest house, it is European style ski lodge accomodation. If you want to be pampered and mollycoddled with grovelling service, go elsewhere.
The Host, owner and chef is Rodney. A unique character who is as part of the mountains as the gum trees that surround the place. Rodney is as Aussie as they come and will not hesitate for one moment to tell you to take off your shoes, stop making a racket or line up for a meal. Rodney built that place and lives there too. It is his home and deserves to be respected.
The rooms are surprisingly comfortable for a log cabin. Warm and snug with bedding and either ensuite or shared facilities.
There are people who don't like staying here and may have a negative experience but that is not common. I know of many who have been going to rivergum for 10 years or more.
I would not consider going anywhere else. It is a proper ski lodge.
