We took a van into the park and probably wouldn't again. The sites are surrounded in eucalypts which in the first instance is part of the appeal. After two nights, the initial idyllic setting, results in the worst staining to the roof of the van we have ever encountered in a national park setting. Whilst some is due in part to normal eucalypt shedding, the great majority is due to possum urine that are present in prolific numbers.
We also had a negative experience with the male park manager. On our last night we decided to have a traditional wood fired bbq using the facility provided on each site. Finding that plate on our site was worn through and buckled beyond the possibility of use, we scouted nearby empty sites for one that was usable. The great majority were completely unuseable due to years of use and heating and cooling. One had even folded in half. Most were torn through. We finally found one that was buckled but just useable.
So we started our bbq on this plate happy it was only some 20m from the van. Within 10 minutes the male park manager arrived insisting that we only use the facility only on our own site. When we agreed that we would be happy to oblige if the plate was indeed useable, he pointed out that we should use the electric facilities of the camp kitchen some 200m away. He also said that someone else could have booked the site we were cooking on. When I asked if anyone had, he confirmed that no-one was booked in. So we stood our ground ensuring him that if someone were on this site we most certainly wouldn't be using it.
His attitude didn't get any better insisting over and over we either use the bbq plate on our own site or the camp kitchen even as he walked away. None-the-less we finished cooking our meat where we were but the unnecessary tension created by such a frivolous issue really soured our finish to three days in a beautiful part of Australia.
We'd like to point out that the female park host was delightful and the amenities were very clean and well maintained.
