“Appalling hotel with a disgusting attitude”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 December 2010

We stayed here for 4 nights but will never return. The room on checkin was filthy with a build up of grime and mould that reflected the cleaning staff's slackness and ineptitude. The toilet reaked of stale urine and the shower tiling was gross. The towels provided on two days were stained and on one day the room was not cleaned at all. It was impossible to find anyone to complain to as the reception area was closed most of the time and when I finally did find someone their response was ..."Well it's only a 3 star hotel".
In the hotel itself bar staff laze around talking to mates rather than serve you and after a 10 minute wait we simply walked out. Similarly at breakfast, we and many other guests had to serve ourselves despite a large sign declaring breakfast was NOT self serve, simply because the breakfast staff had absconded somewhere and left us to our own devices.
We stupidly ate in the bistro one night and the meal unsurprisingly was appalling - a roast that you could sole your shoes with was barely reheated with tired and soggy, overcooked vegies. Again cooked and served by staff who couldn't care less.

Really a hotel that treats its guests with such disdain and is so poorly managed does not deserve patronage. I was embarrassed that the international guests staying when we were there might have judged Australian hospitality by this hotel. Avoid the Lake Jindabyne Hotel at all costs until it gets its act together.

“Basic room. Place to sleep at night.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 June 2010

Unless you want to pay an arm and a leg, this accommodation is ok for basic holiday. Went here in the summer. Large room with bunk beds - enough for our family group. We got a breakfast deal & price was right. Like other rooms I've stayed at in Jindabyne, this was very, very basic. Room is slightly run down.... I think of it as a place where a bunch of guys would snowboard all day, party all night & then get a couple of hours kip... not caring too much about where they slept, as long as it was warm & somewhat clean.

“Very poor room”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 March 2010

We had booked in advance and were told brusquely to collect our key from the box outside the reception. Not a great welcome.

The room was as described in most of the other reviews. The room was very "tired". The worst thing about it was the howling gale which blew through the large cracks in the door and the shower room window (which could not be closed). It was a chilly evening and we had to rig up the spare blankets to act as draught excluders.

The restaurant was fine - good value and a very reasonable breakfast included in the cheap price. I wound not stay there again.

“Terrible terrible terrible - dirty, mould, rude staff”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2010

This place was one of the worst I have ever been to. The staff were completely unfriendly, the rooms were dirty, the linen stained with holes. The bathrooms had mould everywhere and did not look to be cleaned within the last 6 months. When we went to complain, the staff basically told us that it was too bad. We ended up sleeping there for one night, then went to somewhere else. They would not give us a refund as it was not a "medical emergency".
I would not recommend this place to anyone.

“A room with a view”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2010

I choose this hotel from the reviews that I had read and the price ($90 with breakfast). I hoped our room would have a view and discovered all the rooms looked directly out onto Lake Jindabyne. The view from the room was definitely 5 star but if you were looking for 5 star accommodation, this isn't the hotel for you. The room was basic and comfortable, had a queen bed and a set of bunks, a table with four chairs and a tv on a cabinet facing the queen bed. There was a kettle with mugs, tea, coffee, sugar, biscuits and long life milk in the small fridge. The bathroom area was quite old but that certainly didn't bother us as everything in the room was very clean.

After getting our key and unloading the car, we hopped back in the car to find the Tourist Information Centre. Discovered it was, more or less, diagonally across the road and only a 2-3 minute walk. It was also next to a shopping centre which included a supermarket (a small Woolworths).

We ate dinner at the hotel and their Sunday Night special was a cook-your-own piece of rump steak on their large internal bbq with serve yourself from the salad bar for $10. Excellent value.

As it was a Sunday night, it was fairly quiet but I would certainly suspect there would be more noise on a Friday or Saturday night. In that case, I would probably enquire for a room as far from the bar as possible.

Breakfast was included in the room price. Served between 7am-9am. You could help yourself to four types of cereal; different juices; tea and brewed coffee; toast with various spreads. If you wished to have the cooked food, you made your selection from the eggs, bacon, beans, hash browns and sausages and a staff member served you. When you were finished, there were signs asking you to take your used items to a trolley next to the kitchen. Everybody I saw seemed to be quite happy to do this.

All in all, we were very satisfied with our visit, particularly the view from the room.
