“Definitely a Motel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 August 2008

When I arrived I was surprised and disappointed by my first impression as it wasn't what I was expecting from the pictures on their website. It was definitely an old style motel.

We stayed 2 nights in a double motel room and it was very pleasant as it turned out - great location, great service and adequate accommodation. Just a pity that I'd been expecting more.

The restaurant for breakfast was terrific but amazingly busy, we had to wait to be seated each morning. However, the service was friendly and efficient and the food good.

The Italian Club nearby is a great experience for dinner too! Friendly community atmosphere and very cheap meals and wine. Worth a visit!

  • Liked — Basic, Clean, Everything you needed, location
  • Disliked — Not what we were expecting - old fashioned and not very private and not that cheap

“An excellent example of the very ordinary”

This property does not know what it is. It is not an Inn and it is not a hotel. It is a very ordinary motel built in a very utilitarian fashion surrounding concrete courtyards. Visually it is unappealing. The standard rooms are very small with the maximum walking width between objects being about 1 m. Sit on the side of the bed and if you lean forward you will bump it on the table. It is impossible for 2 people to pass each other at the foot of the bed without making contact. Space in the shower room is little more than elbow width. Make sure you lock the door or your knees will feel the full force of the opening door when using the toilet.
There is an ambiance of crampedness,
Do not be misled by their advertising photographs and comments about their staff. It does not provide value for money. For what is on offer it is grossly over priced.

  • Liked — Nothing.
  • Disliked — Cramped, utilitarian.

“Motel, not Hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 July 2007

This place did not live up to the photos on its website. The hotel looks nothing like what they have advertised. We were quite disappointed to find that it is not a hotel at all, but a motel. It was a good deal, so we weren't expecting a palace, but this was quite a step down from our exectations.

On the positive side, it was clean and quiet and staff were very efficient and helpful. But we were taken aback by the shabby quality of the rooms. It was cold, there was a bare tile floor. The bathroom had an automatic fan the blew in air from outside-- which was very unwelcome in the winter chill! Did not feel entirely safe either, with the flimsy locking mechanism on the doors (internal and external).

It wasn't clear when we booked on wotif whether or not breakfast was included. Breakfast was included and was decent. Buffet-style, so you could eat as much as you liked.

It seems that the motel is in the process of renovating some rooms. It could be that there are rooms of a higher quality, but we didn't see these.

  • Liked — quiet
  • Disliked — shabbiness, more like backpacker accommodation

“Good Basic Hotel Room”

Forrest Inn and Apartments

My husband & I stayed here 1 night on a Friday. I had booked internet special rate, we arrived a little early for check in and were told we were being given an upgrade. The room was pretty ordinary so I’m not sure what we would have been in otherwise. There are apartments but we were in the motel section. It was a non smoking room, and no sign of smoking at all. There was a sofa bed as well as queen for a 3rd person, but that would have made it pretty cramped as there was a small table & 2 chairs as well. Fridge was surprisingly large; there was tea & coffee making, good quantity of both supplied & fresh milk. Also a toaster, but no crockery apart from the cups & saucers to make use of that. Lots of storage with large wardrobe and separate drawers.
The flooring was part tiled/part carpet & looked fairly new. Bed was comfortable and furnishings also looked fairly new. The rest was rather tired, chipped chip-board built in table and rather battered bathroom. It was very clean & we had plenty of towels so overall it was O.K. Free parking too. There is a restaurant which is closed Fri-Sun so can’t comment on that. Position is good, close to Manuka restaurants( 3 or 4 block walk) and Canberra attractions. It was also fairly quiet; our room was directly opposite the local school so no action there in the evening. The other side faces the car park of the Italian –Australian cultural centre. There was a function going on there when we were getting ready for dinner. Looked like they were having a great time and the music was nice. It was all over by the time we got back.
