We went last Dec. 26 to Cacao Beach Resort-Spa Casino and we were very disappointed by the lies promoted in the Sunwing brochure.
It actually takes 1 hour and 40 minutes to get to the hotel from the airport. When we got there it was like being in a ghost hotel.
There were only 4 more guests! and the 9 of us, it made it 13 people on the hotel. I don't know if the hotel is under construction, renovation or if it went bankrupt, but regardless, they shouldn't be open for business under such conditions.
The bathroom doors wouldn't lock. Hotel management could only justify it by saying: "are you a family? then, why do you need to close the door?"
They were offering 5 restaurants, but only one was functioning. The food was ok, but of course, limited in choices. The third day they opened another area 'restaurant', buffet style. Upon opening this restaurant, the other remained closed, which meant that we didn't really have an option of where to eat. Forget about ordering diet coke, they would give you coke mixed with water. After a couple of instances we realized that you needed to ask for coke of diet (coca cola de dieta) and then they will give you a diet coke. Asking for hot water for tea took more than 20 min.! The hotel advertised to have a Spa? look at the pictures, that is what they had for a spa. Thinking about going into the Jacuzzi? look for yourself, it was still in shambles. The only entertainment offered was playing chess, and domino. Forget about the snorkelling classes by the pool, sports, beauty salon, and gym facilities. Everything advertised for this hotel was a lie.
Beach front? if you consider crossing the main road part of the beach then yes, it was beach front. Activities by the beach, NONE! The volleyball court was full of garbage...it wasn't until our fourth day there that the entertainment team started playing some volleyball (after management decided to clean the area following numerous complaints).
It is appalling to see how travel agencies can take advantage of tourists in this way. We have contacted itravel2000, who sold us the package, and Sunwing Vacations. But of course, none of these companies are willing to take responsibility for our disaster.
If what the manager, Mr. Pimentel, said is true, they were paying them $35.00 per person, yet no one is stepping up to the plate to take responsibility.
