“Great family day out”

On Good Friday I gathered up Mum, hubbie, sis and the kids (2 and 4 years) in a trailer and we headed off from Wangaratta to Tarrawingee. It's around 20 kms, all flat, beautiful rural scenery on a great, safe off road trail with the last section on a quiet county road. After about an hour and half we arrived at The Plough Inn to enjoy a fantastic lunch. What could be better?

“Loved the different rides on offer”

I'm not a cycle mad person but don't mind a shortish ride, and I like it even more if there are cool places to visit along the way. Loved it that you can choose from all different lengths and experiences. It's such a huge trail - you can do all or just some. Loving the wineries that are strategically places along the trail. Certainly makes for a good watering hole! mmmm Brown Brothers and Sam Miranda's were lovely.

“Great cycle trail suitable for everyone in a truly lovely part of Australia”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 December 2010

We have ridden this cycle track several times and it is a great holiday in a lovely area. The old railway tracks have been removed and turned into a cycle, walking, horse riding track that goes for 90 kilometers through very lovely country side. The track is flat and you see riders of all ages and sizes riding along at their own pace. The rail trail is in the Victorian highlands and close to the snow fields and in Summer this area has some wonderful heavy duty muntain road cycling and mountain bike track riding for the fit and adventurous types.

When we go we rent one of the many charming little houses available and base ourselves there and drive to whatever part of the track we want to ride that day. It is also possible to start at one end and stay in several of the charming little towns along the track if you want to carry your belongings with you.

The area is popular with tourists in the snow and warmer seasons as it is quite beautiful and close to the snow fields. While it isnt toutisty, it is well set up to cater to tourists with different budgets. It is also part of a gourmet trail and in a wine growing area with several very good wineries with nice cellar doors perfect for whiling away a few hours between rides.
