Having been to Queenstown on a previous trip and found it just abit too touristy we decided to base ourselves for a week in Arrowtown and we're so very glad we did. We stayed at Arrowtown Homestay with Anne and Arthur Gormack, who are the nicest, kindest warmest people it's possible to meet. We were made so welcome, their home was ours for the week, including the pool - the glass of wine by the pool in glorious sunshine made for a perfect memory.
We had one of two beautifully furnished ensuite rooms as well as a guest sittingroom and terrace shared by both rooms. The rooms and terrace looked over the Wakatipu Basin with the mountains beyond - the sunsets were amazing. Every morning we watched as hot air balloons soared into the sky, wonderful.
As well as providing a great breakfast (homemade muesli, bread and yoghurt with various fruits) Anne popped grapes into a basket for us every morning as well as bringing a lovely lemon cake to us one evening. After discussing the merits of making bread Anne whipped up foccacia for us (perfect for our lunches).
We simply couldn't have been made more welcome and long to go back.
Arrowtown is lovely - especially in the evening when the coaches have left and the restaurants (including Millbrook Resort) come into their own. It's also a great base for exploring the area, including Queenstown.
