Riverside Villa was even better than its website promised. It's a lovely old timber house right on the south bank of the Hokitika river. The hosts, Margaret and Allen were friendly and helpful without being over familiar and gave us several useful tips for the next stage of our drive up the West Coast. We were given a scrumptious meal (by prior arrangement) the evening we arrived, at a very reasonable price. We also visited the glow worms in the garden when it got dark. The villa is in a beautiful position about ten minutesdrive out of Hokitika. It's not very far from the Hokitika gorge, which is well worth a visit. We slept well in our comfortable and spotlessly clean en suite room and were sent on our way with an excellent full breakfast inside us the next morning. We were only sorry we couldn't stay a few more days. The only thing lacking was a tea making facility in our room but this was more than outweighed by the quality of everything else.
